Ohio State Tied for 11th After Opening Round of NCAA West Regional – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team opened NCAA West Regional action Thursday, finishing the day in a tie for 11th place. The Buckeyes’ team score of 300 (+12) came on the par 72, 6,947-yard The Farms Golf Club in the San Diego suburb of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
Southern California will head into the second round in a commanding lead at 278 (-10), nine strokes ahead of second-place UCLA and Texas. USC also has the overall leader in Jeffrey Kang whose 6-under 66 puts him two strokes ahead of teammate Steve Lim and Texas’ Dylan Frittelli in second.
In a scoring rarity, four of Ohio State’s five competitors will head into the second day of play in a tie for 34th place. Senior Bo Hoag, Brad Smith and Michael Cress, as well as junior Dan Charen, each shot 3-over 75. Sophomore Zack Sobel also competed for the Buckeyes, shooting an 80 to finish in a tie for 64th place.
The second round of the NCAA Regional in San Diego will resume Friday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. PT.
