Two Buckeyes Advance to U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Members of the Ohio State men’s golf team competed in the 18-hole U.S. Open Local Qualifier Monday at the par 72, 7,228-yard Kinsale Golf Club in Powell, Ohio. Sophomore Zack Sobel and senior Bo Hoag each earned a spot in the Top 8 to advance to the U.S. Open Sectional.
Sobel led the field with a 6-under 66, while Hoag finished tied for seventh with a 1-under 71. With the finish, the pair move on to the sectional tournament and will compete for a spot at the U.S. Open held June 13-19 at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.
Six current Buckeyes also competed in the one-day tournament. Junior Jamie Sindelar finished tied for 10th with an even 72, while senior Brad Smith was tied for 13th with a 1-over 73. Dan Charen and Logan Jones each carded a 77, while Michael Kinkopf and Gary Quinn recorded a 78 and 79, respectively.
Up next for the team is the 2011 NCAA San Diego Regional held May 19-21 in San Diego at The Farms Golf Club hosted by the University of San Diego.
