BlazRola and Chase Buchanan captured the 2011 USTA/ITA National IndoorIntercollegiate Doubles Championship in stunning form Nov. 6 at theUSTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. TheBuckeye duo defeated Tulsa’s Clifford Marsland and Ashley Watling4-6, 7-5, 6-2 to win the highly acclaimed title. The duo advancedto the finals with wins over Princeton’s Matt Siow and MattSpindler (8-5, second round), Duke’s Henrique Cunha and ChrisMengel (8-6, quarterfinals), and California’s Nick Andrews andChristoffer Konigsfeldt (6-4, 3-6, 6-4, semifinals). Redshirtfreshman Logan Stieber opened the 2011-12 season in impressive fashion,going 4-0 at the Eastern Michigan Nov. 5 en route to being crownedthe 133-pound champion. Stieber scored bonus points (9) in each ofhis matches, including a pair of pins in a total time of 2:43.Additionally, the Monroeville, Ohio, native posted a 15-2 majordecision against eighth-ranked Cashe Quiroga of Purdue in thefinal.
Baseball

Ohio State honored former Buckeye and present New York YankeeNick Swisher with a field dedication ceremony Nov. 3 at thenewly-renovated Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. Thecurrent Buckeyes, fans and media were on hand to recognize Swisherfor his generosity in giving the program $500,000 to help install anew turf field.
No. 3/3 Men’s Basketball

WilliamBuford was named a candidate for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS awardNov. 4. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must beclassified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notableachievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom,character and competition.
Sophomores Deshaun Thomas and Lenzelle Smith Jr., neither of whom opened agame last season, and Aaron Craft joined two returning starters as the No. 3 Buckeyesdefeated Walsh 95-49 in an exhibition Nov. 6.
No. 15 Field Hockey (12-8, 4-2 Big Ten)
Head coach: Anne Wilkinson
The Buckeyes advanced to the semifinals after defeating No. 7seed Michigan State, 2-1, Nov. 3. OSU scored two second-half goalsagainst the Spartans en route to the tournament victory.
No. 2 seed Ohio State fell, 1-0, in a defensive battle againsthost-school and third-seeded Penn State Nov. 4 in the semifinals ofthe 2011 Big Ten Tournament in State College, Pa. The Nittany Lionsclaimed the lone goal on a penalty stroke in the first half toadvance to the tournament finals.
Football (6-3, 3-2 Big Ten)

Daniel “Boom” Herron, Braxton Miller and Carlos Hyde combined for 346 yards on the ground to propel OhioState to a 34-20 win over Indiana Nov. 5 before a crowd of 105,195at Ohio Stadium.
Men’s Ice Hockey (6-3-1, 3-2-1-1 CCHA)

The Buckeyes pulled off a two-game sweep of Alabama-HuntsvilleNov. 4 and 5 in Huntsville, Ala.
Danny Dries led the team in a 4-0 Game One victory, posting afour-point night, including his first career hat trick. JuniorBrady Hjelle was solid in goal, collecting 21 saves for hisfirst shutout as a Buckeye.
In a 2-0 victory in Game Two, Cal Heeter had 20 saves in net while freshmen Tanner Fritz and Nick Oddo each recorded their first career goals.
Women’s Ice Hockey (5-4-1, 5-4-1-1 WCHA)
Head coach: Nate Handrahan
The Buckeyes dropped a two-game series to top-ranked WisconsinNov. 4 and 5 at the OSU Ice Rink.
The Game One loss was a heartbreaker for the Scarlet and Gray asthe Badgers scored two goals in the final eight minutes to capturea 3-1 win. Freshman Kayla Sullivan tallied the lone goal for the Buckeyes in thesecond period off of assists from fellow freshmen Taylor Kuehl and Danielle Gagne.
OSU was shutout, 2-0, in Game Two, as Wisconsin goalie Alex Rigsbycollected 30 saves.
Men’s Soccer (10-6-2, 4-2-0 Big Ten)
Head coach: John Bluem
OSU concluded its regular season with a 1-0 setback toninth-ranked Indiana Nov. 4 in Bloomington, Ind. Nikita Kotlovtallied the game-winner for the Hoosiers in the 45th minute,sneaking a ball past the OSU defense and into the lower rightcorner of the net.
Ohio State finished tied for second in the Big Ten conference andreceived the No. 2 seed in the upcoming league tournament. TheBuckeyes will face seventh-seeded Penn State at 3:45 p.m.Wednesday, Nov. 9 at U-M Soccer Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Women’s Soccer (10-8-2, 5-5-1 Big Ten)

No. 7 seed Ohio State dropped an opening round match tosecond-seed and 18th-ranked Illinois 4-2 in penalty kicks after aneven 1-1 match at the Big Ten tournament Nov. 2 in Evanston,Ill.
Ohio State senior defender Danielle Scoliere, a first team all-Big Ten selection, wasnamed to the 2011 Big Ten Tournament all-tournament team for heroutstanding defensive play in the Buckeyes’ 1-1 opening-round tiewith eventual champion Illinois.
Men’s Swimming & Diving

Ohio State dominated a quad meet Nov. 4 at McCorkle WaterPavilion, capturing top marks in 14 of 16 events. The Buckeyes werethe winners in all but one of the swimming races, defeatingVirginia Tech (177-124), Cleveland State (211-90) and Division IIIpower Denison (234-64).

Ohio State powered its way to a home win Friday, Nov. 4 atMcCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The team faced some tough competition,defeating Virginia Tech (198.0-100), Cleveland State (232.0-66.0)and Denison (234.0-64.0) in the quad meet. The squad totaled 14wins on the evening, while six different Buckeyes captured a pairof individual titles.

No. 22 Women’s Volleyball (17-10, 7-7 Big Ten)

The Buckeyes won a 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21) decision atWisconsin Nov. 4. Emily Danks posted a match-high 19.5 points in the match with15 kills (.175) three ace serves and three assist blocks. Kaitlyn Leary added 15 points with 13 kills (.321) and fourassist blocks.
Ohio State lost a 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23) match at No. 15Minnesota Nov. 5. Danks posted a team-high 16.5 points with 13kills (.273), one ace serve, one solo block and three assistblocks. Mari Hole added 15.5 points with 14 kills (.085) and threeassist blocks.
No. 13 Wrestling

The Scarlet and Gray began the 2011-12 season in impressivefashion as five Buckeyes were crowned champions at the EasternMichigan Open in Ypsilanti, Mich., Nov. 5. Logan Stieber (133), Hunter Stieber (141), Josh Demas (157) and Nick Heflin (174) won titles in the open tournament event.Nyle Bartling was the 197-pound champion in thefreshman/sophomore tournament.
