Buckeyes Dominate at Mountaineer Open – Ohio State Buckeyes

BOONE, N.C. – The Ohio State men’s cross country team placed five runners in the Top 10 en route to a first-place finish at the 6.4k Appalachian State Mountaineer Open Friday evening.
Led by senior Chad Balyo’s third-place finish, the Buckeyes totaled 29 points as a team to easily outdistance Southern Indiana and Queens (second-place tie, 57 points). Queens senior Michael Crouch captured the individual title.
“I was very pleased with the effort and times from the team today,” Ohio State head coach Robert Gary said after the race. “We sat our No. 1 runner in Taylor Williams, but still had a good performance as a team because we ran in a pack.”
The strong Buckeye pack included Adam Green and Donny Roys – fourth and sixth, respectively – and Top 10 performers Julian Meyer (ninth) and Cory Leslie (10th). 12th-place Chris Fallon and Dan White (24th) rounded out the Buckeye scoring.
“Overall, we’re off to a good start,” Gary said. “More importantly, we are way ahead of where we were last season from a conditioning standpoint. Our guys ran well despite racing on tired legs.”
