Four Buckeyes in Top 10 as OSU Leads Marshall Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State sets tournament record for lowest team 18-hole score (273) in first round
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team started the fall season with a bang, setting the tournament record for lowest 18-hole team score with an 11-under 273 Monday in the first round of the 41st-annual Marshall Invitational. The Buckeyes added a second round of 274 in the afternoon to lead the tournament by nine strokes at 21-under.
Four of five Buckeyes stand in the top 10 with each player carding at least one round in the 60s on the par 71, 6,534-yard course at Guyan Country Club in Huntington, W.Va.
Leading the Buckeyes is Jamie Sindelar in third place. The sophomore from Horseheads, N.Y., fired a 66 to close the day after an opening round of 70 for a total of 6-under 136. He is four strokes back from individual leader Sebastian MacLean of Xavier.
Also shooting a 66 to tie for the third-lowest round of the day was junior Alex Redfield. The Columbus native opened with his low round and followed with a 72.
Redfield is one of three Buckeyes tied for eighth at 4-under along with fellow junior Dan Charen and senior Brad Smith. Charen, from Langhorne, Pa., fired back-to-back rounds of 69. Smith, from Peru, Ind., had a first round of even-par 71 then added a 67 in the afternoon.
Rounding out the Ohio State lineup is senior Bo Hoag in a tie for 17th at 2-under 140. The Upper Arlington product had scores of 68-72.
Sindelar, Redfield and Charen all had the lowest rounds of their careers during play Monday. Sindelar and Redfield each bested their previous lows by four shots.
Competing as an individual is senior Michael Cress. The Dublin, Ohio, native is tied for 25th at 141 after rounds of 70-71.
The Marshall Invitational concludes with a final round Tuesday. Ohio State will tee off of No. 1 between 9:20-9:52 a.m.
