COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three more rounds in the 60s were turned in by the top 3 golfers Friday to conclude the four-day, five-round fall qualifier on the Scarlet Course for the Ohio State men’s golf team. Jamie Sindelar, a sophomore from Horseheads, N.Y., took the top spot with a score of 6-under 349 after closing with a 3-under 68, adding to his rounds of 70-72-67-72 during the week.
Runner-up was junior Dan Charen at 2-under and also concluded the week with a solid final round of 69. Matching his Friday score was senior Bo Hoag who took third at 1-over.
“There were some great scores this week,” Donnie Darr, second-year Ohio State head coach, said. “I’m excited to now take our games on the road to compete.”
Rounding out the top 5 were senior Brad Smith at 11-over and junior Alex Redfield at 12-over. Smith concluded fall qualifying with a 72, while Redfield capped off his impressive rebound with a 71. He opened qualifying with a 79, but was only 4-over through his next four rounds.
For their efforts Sindelar, Charen, Hoag, Smith and Redfield will be in Ohio State’s lineup for the Marshall Invitational, opening up Ohio State’s fall tournament action Sept. 13-14 in Huntington, W.Va. Senior Michael Cress also will be competing as an individual.
