COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (17-6 overall, 5-5 Big Ten, tied for fifth) plays home matches against Purdue (14-7, 5-5, tied for fifth) and Indiana (17-5, 5-5, tied for fifth) this weekend. The Buckeyes face the Boilermakers of Purdue Friday and the Hoosiers of Indiana Saturday in 7 p.m. matches. Friday’s match with Purdue will be available on the web at www.bigtennetwork.com for a fee. Both matches will be played in St. John Arena. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students per match. Ohio State students are free with their valid Buck-ID.

Kelli Barhorst ranks second at 3.12 with Emily Danks third at 3.10.Dullis averaging a team-high 3.35 kills per set. Barhorst ranks second at 2.50 with Anna Szerszen third at 2.32. Barhorstis hitting a team-high .397 with Allie Schwarzwalder second at .311 and Danks third at .255. At setter, Betsy Hone is averaging 9.43 assists per set with Amanda Peterson second at 6.72. Ariel Turner leads the team in points per set with a 4.77 average. Tiffany Fisher ranks second at 2.16 with Catherine Rebarchak third at 2.59. Turner is the team leader in points per set at 4.19. Fisher ranks second at 2.47 with Rebarchak third at 2.19. Leading the squad in attack percentage at .345 is Fisher. Rebarchak ranks second at .237 with Turner third at .206. At setter, Jaclyn Hart has a 10.41 assists per set average. In aces per set, Fisher has a .17 average with 13. Ashley Benson has a team-high 4.41 points per set average with Jordan Haverly second at 4.02 and Kelci Marschall third at 2.90. Haverly is the team leader in kills per set at 3.46. DULL RECORDS DOUBLE-DOUBLE AT NORTHWESTERN
Katie Dull produced 17 kills and 10 digs for her eighth double-double of the season and helped the Buckeyes to a 3-2 upset of 22nd-ranked Northwestern. She added an ace serve, a solo block and three assists against the Wildcats. Dull had seven kills, three digs, a solo and one assist block against Penn State. She has started in 16 of the 23 matches and is averaging 4.00 points, 3.35 kills, .24 aces, 1.89 digs and .69 points per set.
DULL MOVES TO EIGHTH IN OHIO STATE CAREER KILLS WITH 1,418
Katie Dull, with 24 kills last week, has moved to eighth on the Ohio State career kills list with 1,418. She passed Vanessa Wouters (1996-97) with 1,409. Dull needs 11 kills to pass No. 7 Leisa Wissler (1988-91) with 1,428 and 17 to move past No. 6 Gabriele Jobst (1991-94) with 1,428. Dull ranks seventh in kills per set at 3.60, 11th in solo blocks with 57 and 16th in total blocks with 247 (57-190), 10th in points with 1,652.0 and ninth in points per set at 4.19.
DANKS SERVING UP ACES
Emily Danks recorded six aces in the matches against Penn State and Northwestern. She had two aces against Penn State, adding six kills, two digs, one solo block and one assist. At Northwestern, Danks collected four aces, eight kills, one dig, three assist blocks and one assist. Her back-to-back aces at 24-all in the fourth set kept OSU in the match and helped secure a five-set victory over the Wildcats. Danks has played in 23 matches this season with 22 starts. She is averaging 3.10 points, 1.96 kills, .74 aces, .67 digs and .71 blocks per set while hitting .254.
DANKS NOW TIED FOR 20TH IN OHIO STATE CAREER ACE SERVES
Emily Danks recorded six ace serves last week to give her 102 career aces and has moved into a tie for 20th on the Ohio State career list with Jen Flynn (1996-99). Ahead of her in the rankings are No. 19 Ami Stevens (2004-07) with 103, No. 18 Dana Stearns (1997-2000) with 104, No. 17 Rosie Snow (1996-99) with 105 and No. 16 Lisa Vitali (1986-89) with 106. Danks ranks second in career aces per set with a .51 average.
SCHWARZWALDER HAS A TEAM-HIGH EIGHT BLOCKS AT NORTHWESTERN
Allie Schwarzwalder produced a team-high eight blocks at Northwestern with a solo and eight assist blocks. It was her third best blocking game of the season. She added eight kills and one dig against the Wildcats. Against Penn State, Schwarzwalder had seven kills and one assist block. A starter in 17 of 23 matches this season, she is averaging a team-high 1.29 blocks per set. Schwarzwalder is averaging 2.60 points, 1.76 kills and .41 digs per set while hitting .311.
SZERSZEN CONTRIBUTES EIGHT KILLS AND SIX DIGS AT NORTHWESTERN
Anna Szerszen recorded eight kills, six digs, one assist block and one assist in the victory at Northwestern. Against Penn State, she recorded six kills and four digs. Szerszen has played in all 23 matches and has 14 starts. She is averaging 2.83 points, 2.32 kills, .20 aces, 1.15 digs and .53 blocks per set while hitting .219. Schwarzwalder, with a .76 blocks per set career average, ranks 20th on the Ohio State career list.
BARHORST HAS HER 12TH DOUBLE-FIGURE POINTS MATCH OF THE SEASON
Kelli Barhorst, with 10.5 points, posted her 12th double-figure points match of the season against Northwestern. She recorded nine kills and three assist blocks while hitting .300. Against Penn State, Barhorst had three kills and two digs. A starter in 18 matches, she is averaging 3.12 points, 2.50 kills, .38 digs and .87 blocks per set while hitting a team-high .397.
BARHORST NOW 18TH IN OHIO STATE CAREER ASSIST BLOCKS
Kelli Barhorst, with three assist blocks last week, has moved to 18th on the Ohio State career assist blocks list with 197. She passed Stacey Gordon (2001-04) with 195. Barhorst needs 11 assist blocks to pass No. 17 Shelly Draeger (1999-02) with 207. She ranks 12th in career attack percentage at .276, 20th in total blocks with 229 (32-197) and 13th in blocks per set at .88.
HONE HAS 29 ASSISTS AND EIGHT DIGS IN WIN AT NORTHWESTERN
Betsy Hone recorded 29 assists, eight digs, one solo block and one kill in the victory at Northwestern. She produced 19 assists, seven digs and three kills against Penn State. Hone has 18 starts in her 21 matches this season. She is averaging 9.43 assists, 1.25 points, .94 kills, 1.58 digs and .38 blocks per set. In career stats, she ranks ninth in assists with 1,881 and is seventh in assists per set at 8.29.
PETERSON CONTRIBUTES IN WEEKEND MATCHES
Amanda Peterson saw action in both matches last week. She played in two sets of the Penn State match recording seven assists and two kills. At Northwestern she had 16 assists, four kills and three assist blocks in four sets. Peterson, a starter in five matches, has played in 14 matches this season. She is averaging 6.72 assists, 1.95 points, 1.34 kills, .90 digs and .76 blocks per set. Peterson in Ohio State career stats ranks 13th in assists with 678 and is eighth in assists per set at 8.07.
MIGNIN RECORDS DOUBLE-FIGURE DIGS IN BOTH MATCHES LAST WEEK
Libero Sarah Mignin recorded match highs of 10 digs against Penn State and 18 at Northwestern last week. She added one kill and an assist against the Nittany Lions while handling 17 serve receptions without an error. At Northwestern, Mignin recorded four assists and one ace serve while handling 45 of 50 serve receptions. The starter at libero in all 23 matches, she is averaging a team-high 3.21 digs per set and is second on the squad in aces with 22. Mignin is the team leader in serve reception percentage at .963 handling 619 of 643 attempts.
HALVERSON HELPING IN THE BACKROW
Susan Halverson continues to see action in the back row for Ohio State. She has played in all 23 matches and has five starts including the last four matches. On the season, Halverson is averaging 1.14 digs per set and has a .949 serve reception percentage handling 314 of 331 attempts. Against Penn State she had six digs and two assists while handling 19 of 20 serve receptions. Halverson had eight digs at Northwestern and handled 18 of 21 serve receptions.
DISALVATORE IN THE BACKROW
Davionna DiSalvatore has played in all 23 matches this season and has 12 starts in the back row. For the season, she is averaging 1.08 digs per set and has a .918 serve reception percentage handling 292 of 318 attempts. Last week DiSalvatore had three digs and two assists while handling 14 of 15 serve receptions. At Northwestern, she had six digs and one assist and handled 10 of 11 serve receptions.
OHIO STATE RECEIVING VOTES IN THE AVCA POLL
In the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll this week, Ohio State received 39 votes and is four spots out of the Top 25. Five Big Ten squads are ranked in the Top 25 with Illinois sixth, Penn State ninth, Michigan 15th, Minnesota 20th and Northwestern 24th. Ohio State, Indiana and Purdue received votes.

In the NCAA National Rankings released Oct. 24, Emily Danks ranks first in aces per set at .74. Kelli Barhorst ranks 19th in hitting percentage at .397. Allie Schwarzwalder is 22nd in blocks per set at 1.29 and 163rd in hitting percentage at .311. In assists per set, Betsy Hone ranks 129th at 9.43. Katie Dull ranks 121st in points at 4.00 and 146th in kills per set at 3.35.
In team statistics, the Buckeyes rank ninth in blocks (2.77), 17th in aces (1.74) and 89th in kills (13.14) per set. Ohio State ranks 124th in assists (11.85) and 308th in digs (11.49) per set. OSU is 19th in attack percentage at .275.
OSU SECURES FOURTH VICTORY AGAINST A RANKED TEAM UNDER CARLSTON
With the 3-2 victory at 22nd-ranked Northwestern, head coach Geoff Carlston earned his fourth victory over an American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 ranked team. In 2009, OSU had wins over seventh-ranked Minnesota (3-0) and 12th-ranked Michigan (3-0) out of nine ranked opponents. The Buckeyes lost to 13 ranked opponents in 2008. Earlier this season, OSU defeated 19th-ranked Minnesota, 3-0, and has two wins over ranked teams in six attempts. In the last three years, the Buckeyes have four victories in 28 matches against ranked teams.
KELLI BARHORST NAMED BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Oct. 18, 2010
Kelli Barhorst was been named the Big Ten Player of the Week for her play in the home victories over Iowa and 19th-ranked Minnesota. In the 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-17) win over Iowa, she posted a career-high 14 kills against the Hawkeyes while hitting .619. Barhorst added a match-high seven blocks with a solo and six assists. In the 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-17) upset of 19th-ranked Minnesota last week, she posted a match-high 11 kills while hitting .429. Her five total blocks were a match high with two solos and three assists. In the two matches, Barhorst averaged 5.42 points, 4.17 kills and 2.00 blocks per set while hitting .524.
MARIAH BOOTH NAMED BIG TEN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sept. 20, 2010
Mariah Booth was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for her play in the three matches of the Kennesaw State Owl Invitational. Returning to her hometown, the Kennesaw, Ga., native averaged a team-high 1.90 blocks per set for the three matches in helping the Buckeyes hold the three opponents to a combined .013 attack percentage and win the invitational.
Booth began the weekend with career highs of 11 assist blocks and nine kills in the 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-20) victory over Presbyterian. She hit .438 (9 kills, 2 errors) 16 attempts) in the match. In the 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-15, 25-10) win over Coastal Carolina, Booth recorded eight kills and five assist blocks while hitting .375 (8-2-16). She closed out the weekend with four kills, one dig and three total blocks (1-2) while hitting .429 (4-1-7) against Kennesaw State.
Booth was named to the Kennesaw State Owl Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 1.90 blocks, 2.10 kills and 3.10 points per set for the weekend.
ALLIE SCHWARZWALDER NAMED BIG TEN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sept. 13, 2010
Allie Schwarzwalder was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for her play in the four Buckeye victories at the Madison Bingaman Memorial Tournament. She was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 2.08 blocks per set in the tournament.
Schwarzwalder had eight kills, four assist blocks and one dig in the 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-18) win over Brown. She had five kills, four digs and four assist blocks in the 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-19) victory at UMBC. Schwarzwalder produced her first career double-double with 10 kills and 10 total blocks in the 3-1 (27-29, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18) win over Sacred Heart. She added thee digs and an ace serve in the match and her 10 total blocks and nine assist blocks were career highs. In the final match of the tournament, a 3-0 (25-13, 30-28, 25-14) win over Towson, Schwarzwalder had five kills, a career-high four ace serves, one dig and nine total blocks with a solo and eight assists.
For the weekend, Schwarzwalder averaged 3.65 points, 2.08 blocks, 2.15 kills, .38 aces and .69 digs per set.
BUCKEYES HAVE THREE BIG TEN NETWORK APPEARANCES
The Big Ten Network will have three Ohio State matches shown live this season. Buckeye home matches against Minnesota (3-0 OSU victory) and Penn State (3-0 PSU victory) and OSU’s road match at Michigan (Nov. 6, 6 p.m.) are part of the conference broadcast schedule.
BIG TEN COACHES PICK OHIO STATE TO FINISH FOURTH
By a vote of the Big Ten coaches, Ohio State has been picked to finish fourth in the 2010 season. The Buckeyes finished tied for fourth last season. Six-time defending champion Penn State was picked to finish first, Illinois season and Minnesota third. Rounding out the top six is Michigan fifth and Michigan State sixth.
KATIE DULL IS NAMED TO THE 2010 PRESEASON ALL-BIG TEN TEAM
Senior outside hitter Katie Dull was a unanimous selection to the 2010 preseason All-Big Ten team by a vote of the Big Ten coaches. Joining Dull on the team is Johannah Bangert, Michelle Bartsch, Laura DeBruler and Hillary Haen of Illinois; Ashley Benson of Indiana; Alex Hunt and Lexi Zimmerman of Michigan; Kyndra Abron of Michigan State; Lauren Gibbemeyer, Tabitha Love and Hailey Cowles of Minnesota; Sabel Moffett of Northwestern and Blair Brown, Alyssa D’Errico and Arielle Wilson of Penn State.
HEAD COACH GEOFF CARLSTON
Geoff Carlston is in his third season at Ohio State. He directed the Buckeyes to a fourth place tie (12-8) in the Big Ten in 2009 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship finishing with a 25-10 overall record.
Carlston came to Ohio State after spending five years as head coach of Ohio University where he built an outstanding program. His squads played in five NCAA tournaments, reaching regional play in 2005. At Ohio, Carlston guided the Bobcats to five-consecutive Mid American Conference championships with an overall record of 144-22. He had a MAC conference record of 78-2 and was 14-1 in the conference tournament, winning four of five.
Carlston was named the MAC Coach of the Year four times and was twice named the Mideast Region Coach of the Year.
He began collegiate coaching with three years at Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) where he posted a 49-42 record. His career record is 247-100.
