Ohio State in Fourth After 36 Holes at the Adams Cup of Newport – Ohio State Buckeyes

Bo Hoag tied for 12th after two rounds of 73, four Buckeyes in top 25
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team began its fall season Monday with 36 holes at the 16th-annual Adams Cup of Newport/Cleveland Golf Classic in Newport, R.I. The Buckeyes are in fourth place at 12-over 588 and just five strokes back from leader New Mexico.
Ohio State opened the tournament with a team score of 296 (+8), but came back with the low-score of the second round in the 17-team field with a 292 on the par 72, 7,244-yard Newport National Golf Course.
The Buckeyes are led by junior Bo Hoag in a tie for 12th. The honorable mention All-American from Upper Arlington, Ohio, shot consecutive rounds of 73 for a total of 2-over 146.
A stoke back is senior Brad Wright. The native of Cambridge, Ohio, followed his opening round of 75 with an even-par round of 72 to tie for 17th.
Tied for 25th with sums of 149 are Michael Kinkopf and Brad Smith. Kinkopf, a sophomore from Hilliard, Ohio, bounced back from a first round of 78 with a 1-under 71, the lowest round by a Buckeye for the tournament. Smith, a junior from Peru, Ind., carded rounds of 73-76.
Rounding out the Buckeye lineup is senior David Becher in a tie for 33rd. Competing in his first college tournament, the Dublin, Ohio, native was 7-over on the day with rounds of 75-76.
The Adams Cup of Newport will conclude with a single round Tuesday.
OF NOTE:
• Brad Smith leads the field with 29 pars, followed by Bo Hoag with 27.
• David Becher is even on Par 3 scoring, while Hoag is even on Par 4 scoring.
• Michael Kinkopf recorded one of 12 eagles on the day.
• Ohio State leads the field in team Par 4 scoring with a 4.18 average.
• The Buckeyes also lead the field in pars totaling 117 in the two rounds, 14 more than the next team.
