Ohio State finished 16th in the final Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association/Under Armour poll released today. Northwestern University won its fifth consecutive national championship, putting the finishing touches on an undefeated season-their first since 2005-and finished the season ranked No. 1 in the final IWLCA/Under Armour national poll. The ‘Cats went wire-to-wire and held the top spot on every ballot cast this season except four. Penn moved up to No. 2, while national runner-up North Carolina and NCAA semifinalist Maryland tied for the third spot.
Four conferences claim four teams each, including the ACC, which boasts four teams in the top-10 and three in the top-five. Maryland and North Carolina, tied at No. 3, sit just above No. 5 Duke while No. 10 Virginia rounds out the top-10 teams. The American Lacrosse Conference is led by top-ranked Northwestern, while Vanderbilt starts the second half of the poll at No. 11. Penn State edges Ohio State at No. 15. The Ivy League claims two teams in the top 10 with Penn (No. 2) and Princeton (No. 7), while Dartmouth holds at No. 17 and Cornell drops to No. 20. Three teams from the Big East rank in the top-10, starting with conference champion Notre Dame at No. 6. The Irish are followed by Syracuse at No. 8 and Georgetown at No. 9; Loyola remains at No. 18.
Four other conferences each claim one school in the poll, starting with the America East’s Boston University at No. 12. Stanford from the MPSF follows at No. 13, just ahead of the CAA’s Towson at No. 14. Fairfield breaks into the rankings at No. 19, the first MAAC school in the poll this season.
