WLAX: Notre Dame Wins 14-11 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season, coming out on the short end of a 14-11 score at No. 11/12 Notre Dame Sunday afternoon in a game played indoors.
Ohio State got three goals each from Rachel Hawes, Gabby Capuzzi and Jayme Beard. Kelly Haggerty and Rachael Cornicello added single scores; Haggerty also had three assists to end the afternoon with four points. Senior Kristen Gilwee took the loss in goal for Ohio State; she recorded 17 saves, the 10th best single-game total in OSU history.
The game was tied 7-7 at halftime, but Notre Dame opened the second half scoring the first five goals.
The Buckeyes are now 2-1 for 2009. Notre Dame raises its record to 2-1 as well.
Ohio State opens its home season against St. Bonaventure Sunday, March 1, in a 1 p.m. match at the North Turf Field next to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Admission is free.
