Bo Hoag Concludes Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic Tied for 15th – Ohio State Buckeyes

Junior from Upper Arlington also won PING Putting Contest at event for 2009 All-America honorees
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Bo Hoag, a junior on the Ohio State men’s golf team, concluded the 35th edition of the prominent Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic tied for 15th at 1-over Tuesday in El Paso, Texas. The annual event featuring the returning All-America honorees from the previous season was held on the par 71, 6,842-yard El Paso Country Club.
“It was an awesome event,” Hoag said. “It was an honor to be there, especially when you consider the players who have competed it in and are currently on the PGA tour. It’s cool to be part of it.”
Hoag, a 2009 Honorable Mention All-America selection from Upper Arlington, Ohio, opened the event with two rounds of 69 Monday. His first round was highlighted with an eagle on the par 4 No. 15 and he balanced three bogeys with three birdies. In the second round, Hoag started 2-under through the first five holes, but returned to even par with back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 6-7. He settled down on his last 11 holes to finish 2-under with birdies on 13 and 17.
In the third round, Hoag was 1-over at the turn but struggled in his last nine holes. He alternated bogeys and birdies on Nos. 10-14 and closed with double-bogey and bogey on his last two holes for a 5-over 76. He moved from a tie for 10th to a tie for 15th in the 32-player field.
“I haven’t played as well as I wanted this fall, so to shoot two rounds in the 60s in the same day was nice,” Hoag said. “The course was difficult today with the wind picking up. I didn’t play worse but had some bad breaks. Overall, I played pretty well.”
Tying for first at 11-under were Hunter Hamrick from Alabama and Morgan Hoffman from Oklahoma State. Hoffman won the one-hole playoff for medalist honors.
Before the tournament began Monday, there were competitions held Sunday. Hoag won the nine-hole PING Putting contest. The Big Ten claimed both crowns with Michigan’s Alexander Sitompul taking the Titleist Long Drive.
