POSTGAME NOTES
- The Ohio State-James Madison game was Game 8 of the 2009 2K Sports Classic benefitting Coaches vs. Cancer. The Columbus Regional was one of four regional rounds of the 15th annual classic. Championship round teams will include Syracuse, California, North Carolina and Ohio State in New York, N.Y., at Madison Square Garden Nov. 19-20.
- Ohio State will now travel to the “Big Apple” to face No. 4 North Carolina Nov. 19 with a 9:30 p.m. tipoff. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
- With the win Thursday, Ohio State improves to 1-1 all-time against James Madison and 9-2 vs. teams representing the Colonial Athletic Association.
- It was the second meeting all-time between Ohio State and James Madison. The Buckeyes dropped the only previous meeting against the Dukes (48-55) March 11, 1982 in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Charlotte, N.C.
- Ohio State is 337-98 when ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 and 15-8 as No. 16.
- The Buckeyes held an opponent to under 50 points for the first time a 52-47 victory against Northwestern March 8, 2008.
- Ohio State’s first tied-score of the year was against the Dukes with 8:38 remaining in the first half.
- The Buckeyes shot 45.5 percent (30-of-66) from the field. Ohio State outscored James Madison 38-19 in the second half.
- The Buckeyes have won 65 of their last 66 games against unranked opponents in Columbus (61 in Value City Arena, 3 in St. John Arena and 1 in Nationwide Arena). Their last loss to an unranked team was vs. West Virginia, Dec. 27, 2008 (76-48).
- The Buckeyes opened the first half with a 10-2 run, forcing four turnovers by James Madison in the first 3:27. Ohio State made 5-of-7 field goals during the opening stretch
THAD MATTA
- Thad Matta is now 1-0 vs. James Madison and 3-1 overall in his coaching career against teams from the CAA.
- Matta improved his career record to 231-77 in his 10th season as a head coach. He is 129-46 in his sixth year at Ohio State.
- Under Matta, OSU is 74-2 against unranked opponents in Columbus, including a 69-2 mark in VCA, 4-0 in St. John Arena and 1-0 in Nationwide Arena.
- Ohio State led 34-25 headed into halftime. Matta is 107-15 when leading at halftime as head coach for the Buckeyes.
EVAN TURNER
- Junior guard Evan Turner claimed his second-consecutive double-double of the season with a game-high 24 points and 17 rebounds with four assists and two steals against the Dukes. He became the second member in Ohio State history to record a triple-double Nov. 9, 2009 vs. Alcorn State. Turner now has 13 career double-doubles as a Buckeye.
- Turner passed the 900-point career mark as a Buckeye with a layup three minutes into the first half. He now has 923 career points.
- Turner had 17 rebounds for the second-consecutive game this year. He has 34 of the Buckeyes’ 90 rebounds this season.
- Turner scored 13 points with eight rebounds in the first half to lead the team. Six of the eight rebounds were on the defensive side.
- Turner hit the 20-point mark in a game for the 12th time in his Buckeye career.
BUCKEYE NOTES
- Junior forward David Lighty started the game for Ohio State and had 14 points. It was his second start since breaking his foot Dec. 22, 2008 against UNC-Asheville.
- Sophomore guard William Buford started the game for the Buckeyes, making his first three field goals of the night. Buford finished with 12 points, shooting 5-of-11 from the floor.
- Buford passed 400 points in his career at Ohio State after claiming two free throws 3:04 into the second period.
- Junior forward Dallas Lauderdale was cleared to play tonight and came off the bench, playing his first minutes of the season with 13. He suffered a broken bone in his right hand during the 2009-10 preseason workouts.
- Senior center Kyle Madsen made his second start of the season at center, third start of his career overall.
Buckeyes Give Back: Mid-Ohio Foodbank Drive
This action-packed weekend, the Buckeyes also will take on another challenge – feeding those in need.
Throughout the weekend, Nov. 13-15, Ohio State will have boxes at each entrance of St. John Arena, Value City Arena and the OSU Ice Rink to collect non-perishable food items to donate to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
Collection boxes will be placed at the entrances to the following home events this weekend:
Friday: Women’s Basketball and Women’s Volleyball at St. John Arena, Men’s Hockey at Value City Arena, Women’s Hockey at the OSU Ice Rink
Saturday: Football Skull Session in St. John Arena, Men’s Hockey at Value City Arena, Women’s Hockey at the OSU Ice Rink
Sunday: Women’s Basketball at Value City Arena, Women’s Volleyball at St. John Arena
