Final tune-up for Buckeyes before opening season Friday
COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s volleyball team held their annual intrasquad match Wednesday at St. John Arena. The match serves as a precursor to this weekend’s Sports Import Classic, which begins Friday.
“I thought that the team played better than we’ve seen them play all pre-season,” Geoff Carlston, women’s volleyball head coach, said. “In the first game, we saw a lot of solid offensive plays and the team played tough defense. They also were serving very aggressively and were very consistent with their passing.”
The match highlighted the final week of preparations for Ohio State’s upcoming season.
“The energy was great throughout the entire game.” Carlston said. “We saw a lot of what we’ve been working on in practice come through, which is very encouraging. Overall, I thought it was a very good experience for the team and things went very well.”
The Buckeyes open the 2008 season Friday when they host the Sports Import Classic at St. John Arena. They face-off with Toledo at 11 a.m. on Friday, followed by a 7:30 p.m. match-up with Xavier. Ohio State concludes the weekend with a contest against Youngstown State at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
