Oklahoma State’s Kevin Tway hangs on to take medalist honors
COLUMBUS, Ohio Wake Forest finished the 2008 NCAA Central Regional with a final round of 302 Saturday for a total of 879 to win by 10 shots over Oklahoma State. Wake Forest led the event at the end of all three rounds. The Cowboys had the low round of the day while battling gusty winds, shooting a 297 (+13). Illinois finished two strokes back in third.
Rounding out the Top 10 and advancing to the NCAA Championships were Florida, Louisville, Alabama, Texas A&M, Kent State, Penn State and Indiana.
TCU’s James Sacheck defeated Charles Ford of Tennessee on the second playoff hole to advance as an individual. Derek Tolan of Colorado also advanced after shooting rounds of 73-72-73 finish with a score of 5-over 218.
Oklahoma State’s Kevin Tway shot his highest score of the week during the third round with a 75, but held on to earn medalist honors by a stroke. Tway finished at 1-over par for the tournament.
Brendan Gielow of Wake Forest and Robert Rohanna of Penn State tied for second at 215. Rohanna tied for the low score of the day with a 70, along with Florida’s Billy Horschel and Sacheck.
