Wake Forest Continues to Lead NCAA Central Regional at Scarlet Course – Ohio State Buckeyes

Oklahoma State’s Kevin Tway carries two-shot lead into final round
COLUMBUS, Ohio After two rounds of the NCAA Central Regional, Wake Forest continues to hole its place atop the leaderboard over the 27-team field. The Demon Deacons shot a 3-over 287 on the par 71, 7,419-yard Scarlet Course and leads second-place Alabama, the top seed in the regional and the No. 3 seed overall, by 10 strokes.
Big Ten foes Illinois and Penn State are tied for third with totals of 590. The Nittany Lions jumped 16 spots Friday after carding the low round of the tournament with a 286.
Oklahoma State’s Kevin Tway, son of PGA TOUR player Bob Tway, moved into first place among individuals after firing a 2-under 69, tying for the low score of the regional. He is has a 36-hole total of 139 and is the only player to break par both days. Trailing Tway are three Wake Forest players Brendan Gielow (-1), Dustin Groves (E) and Webb Simpson (+1).
The shot of the day came from Harvin Groft of Penn State. At the par 5, 586-yard No. 4, Groft slam dunked his approach shot from 150 yards out. The ball tore up the cup causing the rules committee to make a new pin placement a few feet away.
Final round action begins Saturday morning at 7 a.m. Teams will tee off of Nos. 1 and 10.
