Women’s Lacrosse Downs Penn State – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio The OhioState women’s lacrosse team defeated PennState 17-12 Sunday afternoon in an important American Lacrosse Conference game played at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. It was the final home game of the season for the Buckeyes, who are now 9-6 (1-2 in ALC).
Ahead 9-7 at the half, the Buckeyes broke the game open down the stretch. Kristen Slahor, the NCAA leader in assists, had six goals and five assists in her final home game, tying the OSU record with 11 total points in the contest, a mark previously set by Mara Simpson against Earlham in 1996. Slahor also became the first player in Buckeye history to surpass 200 career points.
Jessica Patane scored four goals for OSU, and Kelly Haggerty added two goals and four assists. Rachel Hawes had a pair of goals; also scoring goals for the Buckeyes were Amanda Shimp, Jayme Beard and Brittney Zerhusen.
In goal, junior Kristen Gilwee had six saves, and freshman Annie Carruthers recorded seven saves in an excellent second-half performance.
The Buckeyes return to action Wednesday in a 7 p.m. game at Cincinnati.
