Women’s Lacrosse: Buckeyes Announce 2008 Schedule – Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State slate includes nine games in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio Sue Stimmel, Ohio State women’s lacrosse head coach, announced the team’s 2008 schedule Monday, which includes a lineup of nine home games and features a matchup between the Buckeyes and conference rival and defending national champion Northwestern Wildcats March 14 at 3 p.m.
Ranked 19th in the final 2007 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, the squad opens the 2008 season with three games in Columbus, starting with American on Feb. 16 at 2:30 p.m. Jumping right back into action, the Scarlet and Gray will host Duquesne at 4 p.m. Feb. 19 and wrap up the February homestand against conference foe Notre Dame at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 24.
In its first road swing of the season, Ohio State makes a trip out West to play UC Davis and California. The Buckeyes face the Aggies Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. and the Golden Bears March 2 at 11 a.m. The team then crosses the country to open up American Lacrosse Conference (ALC) play vs. Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md., at 1 p.m. March 9.
After facing the Blue Jays, Ohio State returns to Columbus to play four games on its home field. To open the campaign, the squad will battle defending national champion Northwestern at 3 p.m. March 14 and take on Robert Morris just two days later at 1 p.m. March 16. The Buckeyes then host St. Bonaventure at noon March 22 and finish the four game cluster with a 7 p.m. game against Bucknell March 28. The matchup vs. the Bison will serve at the team’s Scarlet and Gray game in which the OSU Athletics Department and student-athletes are encouraged join together and show their support of the women’s lacrosse team. In addition, rally towels will be handed out at the game.
The Buckeyes hit the road again, this time for four games. Starting with a 1 p.m. game at Virginia Tech March 30, Ohio State continues its away schedule with a pair of games in Chapel Hill, N.C. The first game pits the team against North Carolina at 7 p.m. April 4. OSU then faces Maryland in a neutral site contest at noon April 6 before stopping at Vanderbilt for a league game a 4 p.m. game April 11.
In its final two home games, the women’s lacrosse team welcome Davidson and ALC member Penn State at 1 p.m. April 13 and April 20, respectively. At the game vs. the Nittany Lions, Ohio State will celebrate its senior night. The season concludes with a short trip to Cincinnati to play the Bearcats at 7 p.m. April 23.
This year, the Buckeyes face seven teams who ended last season ranked in the Top 20 of the IWLCA poll, including Northwestern (No. 1), UNC (No. 4), Maryland (No. 5), Johns Hopkins (t-No. 8), Vanderbilt (No. 10), Notre Dame (No. 13) and Penn State (No. 18).
