Women’s Lacrosse Outlasts Duquesne – Ohio State Buckeyes

Buckeyes Win Second Straight
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State (2-0) defeated Duquesne (0-2) 14-10 this afternoon in frigid conditions on OSU’s North Turf Field.
Brittney Zerhusen led Ohio State with five points on two goals and three assists. Kelly Haggerty and Maghan Beaudrault each scored four goals for the Buckeyes.
Beaudrault recorded a team-high six draw controls. In goal, Kristen Gilwee had five saves and Annie Carruthers four for the Buckeyes. Janna Faulkner had five goals for Duquesne.
“I was a little bit concerned about the conditions because Duquesne had been practicing outside all winter,” said Sue Stimmel, Ohio State head coach. “Initially, I thought our team was bothered by the conditions but we refocused and battled back to get the victory.
“I thought our defense played well in transition and we were able to put pressure on the ball and take away some of their fast break opportunities. I’ve been happy with the progress we’ve made over these past two games. I think we will be very competitive against Notre Dame on Sunday.”
Ohio State completes its three-game homestand Sunday, Feb. 24, with a 2:30 p.m. match against Notre Dame as part of a doubleheader with the OSU men’s lacrosse team.
