Ohio State battles course and weather in opening day of three-day event
COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State men’s golf team opened the three-day Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges with a score of 303 (+15) Friday in Jonesborough, Tenn. Leading the 14-team field is host East Tennessee State with a score of even-par 288 on the par 72, 7,147-yard The Ridges Golf and Country Club. Coastal Carolina and North Carolina State are tied for second at 290.
Senior co-captain Vaughn Snyder continued his strong play this fall with an even-par 72. The Massillon, Ohio, native is tied for 11th after a steady round, carding two birdies to go along with 14 pars. Snyder won his last event, the Memphis Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Bo Hoag was one shot back with a 73. After a front nine full of pars, Hoag had three bogeys and two birdies on the back and is tied for 21st.
Co-captain Brad Wright is tied for 57th after shooting a 6-over 78. The redshirt-junior from Cambridge, Ohio, was consistent all day, only to have two double-bogeys mar an otherwise satisfactory round.
Rounding out the Buckeyes was freshman Michael Kinkopf and sophomore Brad Smith. Kinkopf, playing in only his second tournament as a collegian, is tied for 66th after shooting an 80. Smith is one shot back at 81. This is Smith’s first tournament of the season.
The Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges continues with the 18 holes Saturday and will conclude Sunday with the final 18 holes. Live scoring of the event is available at www.golfstat.com.
