Ohio State Cheerleading Activities & Appearance Requests |
• Pep Rallies and Parades: Cheerleaders participate in various pep rallies prior to big games (e.g., “Scarlet Fever,” or the OSU vs. Michigan football game) and miscellaneous parades (e.g., Homecoming or the Marion, Ohio Popcorn Festival), to generate enthusiasm for the University.
• University-related Appearances: Cheerleaders appear on behalf of the University to various Department of Athletics events (e.g., Buckeye Club Reception) or University events (e.g., OSU At Easton (Towne Center) Day and OSU At The Zoo Day).
• Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) National Competition: UCA hosts a yearly competition on the ESPN Network between different collegiate squads from across the country. Each squad performs a 2½-minute routine comprised of cheer, partner stunts, pyramids, gymnastics and associated transitions. This Competition is usually held in the Walt Disney World® MGM® Studios in Orlando, Florida in early January. Ohio State consistently places in the top spots in this Competition.
• Charity Events: Cheerleaders assist in fundraising activities for various charitable organizations, such as the Columbus Children’s Hospital, Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s events.
• Ohio State Cheerleading Competition: To fund scholarship opportunities, we host our own Cheerleading Competition, open to all teams in the State of Ohio, and usually numbering about 1,500 cheerleaders. This Competition is held in both the French Field House and St. John Arena.
• Other Appearances: Cheerleaders and/or Brutus Buckeye help local businesses by appearing for promotional activities when receiving University approval. Such appearances also help fund scholarship opportunities through the business’s donation.
