DJ Bucher Advances to VISA Championships Finals – Ohio State Buckeyes

Senior registers best routine on rings for eighth
Buckeye gymnast DJ Bucher collected 41 points to finish in the Top 36 to continue his run for a national title at the 2007 VISA Championships Wednesday. Bucher will begin the championships finals on parallel bars at 10 p.m. EST at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Also advancing were Olympians Paul and Morgan Hamm, both of whom train under Ohio State head coach Miles Avery. The men’s finals will be aired by NBC Sports on tape-delay at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 9.
At the USA Gymnastics event, the Mason, Ohio, native earned his highest mark on rings with a 15.15, good for eighth. On his remaining two events, Bucher finished 12th on rings (14.1) and 25th on parallel bars (13.75). Freshman-to-be Sean Regan missed qualifying for the second round of competition, finishing the all-around with a score of 82.85, the 18th-highest mark. Regan’s best finish came on pommel horse with a 13.3 (t-22nd).
In addition, former Buckeye Raj Bhavsar, who now trains with Team Chevron in Houston, made the cut with 46 total points and will start on pommel horse Friday. Bhavsar was named to the U.S. Men’s Senior National Team Feb. 21 following the 2007 Winter Cup Challenge.
