On playing at a northern school . . .
“When I grew up in Albuquerque (N.M.), I played golf year round. By the time I got into college, my attitude was faltering because I wanted to be a kid, a teenager and a young adult.
“But when I got into school, instead of having to play golf, I got to play golf when the weather changed, so it helped my motivation to want to play well and work hard. It gave me time in the winter to really crack down on the books and get in shape and ready for the season.”

On Coach Hession…
“I think Coach Hession is a tremendous asset to the team with her years of experience, not only playing on the LPGA, but also being a college player herself.”
On playing at a northern school…
“You don’t need to play golf year round, especially at the collegiate level. You need to get your education and learn how to play golf. You get both at Ohio State.”

On the winter break from golf …
“I think the winter break is an important time. It gives you a chance to rest and to workout, lift weights and tone your muscles, which may be lost playing year round.”
On the size of the school …
“I don’t think it will bother most people because you’re sort of in a capsule there. There are 50,000 people, but the students you deal with and are around the most are the ones in your dorm and the ones on the golf team. I had a great camaraderie with people outside of my team.”

On the development of the golf program …
“When I was there, almost everyone on the team was from the North. Now, the team has gained national recognition. A lot of girls are taking a look at Ohio State. Not only do you get a great coach, but the program speaks to itself. I think it helps to have a break from golf to be excited about it. The fact that you don’t play every day for 12 months can be an advantage when it comes time for nationals. Ohio State is a little secret that is starting to get exposed a little bit.”
