Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Big Ten Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team finished in fourth place at the Big Ten Championships Sunday. The Buckeyes shot rounds of 295-306-301-303 (1205) over the three-day, 74-hole championship event at the OSU Golf Club Scarlet Course (par 71, 7,444) in Columbus, Ohio.
Michigan State and Minnesota were co-champions after tournament total scores of 1,192 (299-292-296-303) and (307-293-298-294), respectively. Michigan State will receive the Big Ten’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament based on a higher final ranking by Golfweek. Pariya Junhasavasdikul (Purdue) won medalist honors after shooting rounds of 69-72-73-71 for a score of 1-over 214. Junhasavasdikul also won the Les Bolstad Award for the Big Ten season’s lowest stroke average with a 72.38, edging out Penn State’s Robert Rohanna by .02 (72.4). Junhasavasdikul birdied his final hole, the par 4 No. 18 hole, to earn the Bolstad Award.
Ohio State senior David Vallina (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) led the Buckeyes with a career-best fourth-place finish after shooting an 11-over par 295 (70-74-75-76). Vallina also tied for second in total pars with 48.
Senior Colin Biles (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) had a career best individual finish at the Big Ten Championships tying for seventh place after firing rounds of 79-74-70-75 (298).
Junior Zach Sebert (Grove City, Ohio/Otterbein College) finished tied for 27th place with a total score of 307 (73-80-76-78).
Senior Jared Jones (Kenova, W.Va./Spring Valley) competed in his first Big Ten Championships for the Buckeyes and finished tied for 38th place after shooting 76-80-81-74 (311).
Freshman Patrick Simard (Marbella, Spain/I.E.S. Ortega & Gasset) shot a tournament total 315 (76-78-80-81) and tied for 48th place.
