COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (9-5, 1-2 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team used three goals each from Jessica Patane (Jr., Farmingdale, N.Y.), Amanda Shimp (Jr., Endicott, N.Y.) and Kelly Haggerty (Fr., West Chester, Pa.) for a 17-4 victory at Bucknell (7-9) Sunday afternoon at Graham Field. Eleven Buckeyes shared in the scoring while Sarah Collins, Chelsea Peters, Bonnie Buechel and Alison Heffernan scored goals for the Bison.
Ohio State opened the scoring at 29:13 with a Shimp goal. Bucknell, with a Collins goal tied the game at one at 28:25. The Buckeyes regained the lead at 27:53 with a Keri Yourick (So., Castle Rock, Colo.) goal assisted by Kristen Slahor (Jr. Ellicott City, Md.). A Haggerty goal at 26:38, assisted by Slahor, made it 2-1. Patane made it 4-1 off a Slahor assist at 25:41. Haggerty’s second goal at 24:35 gave Ohio State a 5-1 lead. Bucknell stopped the Buckeye scoring run with a Peters goal, assisted by Collins at 23:57. Shimp scored her second goal of the game at 23:26 with an assist by Yourick. The Buckeyes made it 7-2 with a Bethany Carey (Jr., Eldersburg, Md.) goal at 22:31 with an assist from Laruen Sterner (Fr., Ellicott City, Md.). Shimp’s third goal at 20:07 gave Ohio State an 8-2 lead. Patane scored at 18:54 to give Ohio State a 9-2 lead. The Buckeyes took the lead to eight at 10-2 with a Rachel Hawes (So., Eldersburg, Md.) goal at 12:17 with Slahor’s fourth assist. Bucknell stopped the Buckeye run with a Heffernan goal at 11:56 with an assist by Peters making it 11-3. Ohio State’s Libby Graf (So., Delaware, Ohio) made the lead eight at 11-3 at 11:30. Haggerty scored her third goal at 10:52, on an eight-meter attempt. Natale Miller (Sr., West Chester, Pa.) took the Ohio State lead to 10 at 13-3 with a goal at 7:58. Brittney Zerhusen (Fr., Sykesville, Md.) added a Buckeye goal at 2:09, assisted by Slahor, to make it 14-3. Patane’s third goal of the game, assist by Slahor’s sixth assist, came as time expired in the first half to give the Buckeyes a 15-3 lead.
Ohio State scored twice in the second half to take the lead to 14. Buckeye goals by Jacqueline Cook (So., Pocopson, Pa.) at 26:55 and Mallory Mayhew (So./Fr., Liverpool, N.Y.) at 25:00 gave Ohio State a 17-3 lead. The Bison closed out the scoring with a Buechel goal at 12:34 with a Collins assist for the final 17-4 score.
In goal, Kristen Gilwee (So., Hunt Valley, Md.) played 18:04 for the win giving up three goals. Joy DeMarco (Sr., Hudson, Ohio) finished out the game, playing 41:56, making seven saves while giving up one goal. For Bucknell, Katie Hartsock took the loss playing the entire game. She had eight saves while giving up 17 goals.
Ohio State closes out the regular season when they travel to Evanston, Ill. to face top-ranked Northwestern (12-1, 3-0) Friday at 5 p.m.
