No. 4 Buckeyes Earn Second-Consecutive Big Ten Boat of the Week Honor – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The first varsity eight boat of the Ohio State rowing team was selected Big Ten Boat of the Week for the second week in a row, the conference announced Monday. The fourth-ranked Buckeyes earned the award after posting their second upset in as many weeks, defeating No. 2 Virginia in the ACC/Big Ten Duals Saturday at Lake Monticello in Charlottesville, Va.
The crew of Claudia Wurzel (Fr., Como, Italy), Justine Mahler (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio), Zuzanna Trzcinska (So., Ilawa, Poland), Patricia Goodeman (Sr., Waterville, Ohio), Gabriele Albertaviciute (Vilnius, Lithuania), Jessica Shepherd (Sr., Richmond, Ohio), Annabelle Fago (Sr., Giessen, Germany), Briony Clare (Sr., Sydney, Australia) and coxswain Susanne Wilson (Sr., Fredericktown, Ohio) clocked in at 6:40.9 to beat the Cavaliers by almost five seconds (6:45.8). Ohio State also defeated Duke in the morning race by 16.9 seconds with a time of 6:42.5.
The varsity eight are 3-1 this season with two of its wins coming against the then-No. 1 and 2 crews in the nation. The Buckeyes beat defending NCAA champion and then-No. 1 Princeton to open the season March 24. Ohio State will next host its lone home regatta of the season, welcoming No. 9 Tennessee and No. 19 Michigan to Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River April 7. Races begin at noon.
