COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team will travel to Statesboro, Ga., this week to compete in the E-Z Go Chris Schenkel Invitational. The event will be played at the par 72 6,962-yard Forest Heights Country Club. Georgia Southern University will be the host school for the tournament.
Practice rounds will be held Friday. Each team will play 36 holes Saturday and 18 holes Sunday. Teams will tee off at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday. Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Augusta State, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan State, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Carolina, NC State, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas A&M make up the tournament field.

NOTING THE BUCKEYES
Colin Biles – Biles finished in the Top 25 (T17) for the fifth time in six tournaments played this season at the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate (Feb. 19-20). Biles led the Buckeyes in scoring in nine out of the team’s 12 tournaments played in 2005-06 while also leading the team with a stroke average of 73.4. He finished in the Top 20 individually in seven tournaments with his best finish (T4) coming at the Fossum Invitational, (4/22-23, 2006). Biles was selected to the NCAA Central Regional competition as an individual and earned second team All-Big Ten honors in 2005-06.
Jared Jones – Jones’ last tournament appearance came at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Oct. 15-17. He finished tied for 28th with a 233 total (76-73-84). Jones played in four tournaments in 2005-06 and had a 76.4 stroke average with his low round of 75 coming at the Duke Classic Oct. 9-10, 2005.
Zach Sebert – In Sebert’s second tournament with the Buckeyes at the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate, he shot an individual season best tournament total of 228 (77-71-80) and tied for 69th place. Sebert was a Division III All-American at Otterbein College in 2006.
Patrick Simard – Simard had his best collegiate finish as he tied for seventh place and shot a tournament total 217 (73-74-70). The 1-over score for Simard was the best by a Buckeye this season. Simard also tied for fourth in total birdies (12). The freshman is a three time national champion in Spain (96, 97, 98) and also was a regional champion in Spain from 1998-2001.
Jack Tyler – At the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate, Feb. 19-20, Tyler tied for 48th with a three-round total of 224. Tyler was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team and was an Ohio State Scholar Athlete in 2005-06. He was tied for second on the team in stroke average with a 76.5. His low round of 69 and best finish, tied for 10th, came at the Inverness Invitational, Sept. 19-20, 2005.
David Vallina – Vallina tied for 63rd place after rounds of 76-76-75 (227) at the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate (Feb. 19-20). The senior played in six tournaments in 2005-06 and had an average that was second-best on the team (75.7). He shot low rounds of 72 twice and his best finish was a tie for 15th at the Fossum Invitational.
RIO PINAR INTERCOLLEGIATE RECAP
The Ohio State men’s golf team finished in ninth place at the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate Feb. 19-20. The Buckeyes shot rounds of 299-293-291 (883) over the two-day, 54-hole event at the Rio Pinar Country Club (par 72, 6,978) in Orlando, Fla. This marks the first tournament of the season the Buckeyes shot all rounds under 300.

“Traveling to Statesboro for the Schenkel each year is such an exciting trip for the team. Outside of the post season, this is the best field we will face this year. Following the tournament, we will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for a fun week of practice and play. We are looking for a solid performance to get our spring season off to a great start.”
