COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team opens its 2006-07 season at the Gopher Invitational in Wayzata, Minn., Saturday. The University of Minnesota will play host to the two-day event at the par-72, 7,020-yard Spring Hill Golf Club.
Ohio State will send a lineup of seniors Colin Biles, Jack Tyler and David Vallina, along with junior transfer Zach Sebert and freshman Patrick Simard.
The Buckeyes tee off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and will play 36 holes. Final round competition (18 holes) begins at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
Jim Brown, Ohio State head coach, said the Buckeyes were competitive during qualifying earlier this week and hopes to carry that over to the weekend.
“We are excited for the season to get underway,” Brown, now in his 34th year at Ohio State, said. “The last week of qualifying has been very competitive and we are looking forward to teeing it up in Minnesota. The field for this year’s tournament is strong, including several Big Ten teams and other nationally-ranked programs. Spring Hill Golf Club has received outstanding reviews and I’m sure it will provide a strong test for our young men.”
