COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s gymnastics team is reaching out to Columbus youths by conducting two training camps in June and beginning a year-long boys club. The initiatives are to promote visibility and awareness of the Ohio State gymnastics program in the local community.
“Our new programs will give young athletes the chance to see collegiate gymnasts at work,” Miles Avery, Ohio State head coach, said. “Hopefully, it will help train future Buckeyes and provide current OSU gymnasts a chance to serve as good examples to Columbus’ youth.”
At the Champions Training Camp, coaches and members of the Ohio State squad will work with boys and girls entering into grades 2-12 (fall 2006) to encourage hard work, dedication and sportsmanship during two three-day sessions. Session I will be held June 16-18 and Session II will be held June 23-25. More information on the camps can be located on the men’s gymnastics homepage on ohiostatebuckeyes.com.
In addition, the gymnastics program is creating a club for young elite male gymnasts. The boys club will be a year-long program consisting of 25 athletes from ages 7-17. It will be led by Ohio State assistant coach and former Olympic and World champion Dmitri Bilozertchev and assisted by Avery. Over the year, the young athletes will be challenged to expand their confidence and skills during training sessions.
