Women’s Lacrosse Falls, 14-10, to Penn – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (0-3 overall) women’s lacrosse team opened the home schedule with a 14-10 loss to Penn (3-0) Saturday afternoon in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. OSU’s KC Carter (Sr., Birchrunville, Pa.) had a team-high three goals with Kristen Hannon (So., Sykesville, Md.) adding two. Penn’s Ali Ryan posted a game-high four goals for the Quakers with Chrissy Muller and Emily Cochran adding three each.
Penn opened the game by scoring with the first four goals of the contest. Cochran scored at 1:35 into the half followed by a Muller goal at 2:55, assisted by Rachel Manson. Cochran’s second goal at 5:23 and a Ryan goal, assisted by Mason, at 6:01 made it 4-0. OSU’s Carter at 13:45 and Hannon at 14:46 scored on free position shots to cut the margin to 4-2. Cochran added her third goal at 18:07 but Buckeye goals by Jessica Patane (So., Farmingdale, N.Y.) at 18:55 and by Hannon, assisted by Kelly Kremer (So., Kennett Square, Pa.), cut the Penn lead to 5-4. A Mason goal at 21:18 and two by Muller, at 24:15 and 29:43, closed out the half with Penn leading, 8-4.
The Quakers opened the second half with a Mason goal, assisted by Ryan, just 11 seconds into the half. An Allison Ambrozy goal at 33:06, assisted by Mason gave Penn a 10-4 lead. An OSU goal by Kelyn Laws (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.) stopped the five-goal Quaker run at 35:44. Penn countered with a Ryan goal at 36:30, assisted by Muller, and a Tarah Kiman goal at 37:54, assisted by Allison Ambrozy, to take the lead to seven at 12-5. The Buckeyes scored the next three goals to cut the lead to four at 12-8. Lindsay Weiner (Jr., Eldersburg, Md.) started the run at 42:31 with an assist from Jessica Patane (So., Farmingdale, N.Y.). Carter scored at 45:05 and Natale Miller (Jr., West Chester, Pa.) at 46:08 to complete the run. Ryan responded for the Quakers with a goal at 53:49. OSU’s Amanda Shimp (So., Endicott, N.Y.) countered with a goal at 56:43 make it 13-9, Penn. Ryan scored her fourth goal of the game at 57:32 with Carter adding her third goal at 58:51 to complete the scoring at 14-10, Penn.
In goal for Ohio State, Kim Hastings (Sr., Sewickley, Pa.) took the loss, playing the entire game. She had 13 saves while giving up 14 goals. Quaker Karrie Moore played the first 30 minutes for the win, recording three saves while giving up four goals. Sarah Waxman played the final 30 minutes for the Quakers, making six saves and giving up six goals.
Ohio State returns to the road next Sunday, march 12 at eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins at 1 p.m. to open play in the American Lacrosse Conference.
