COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (0-7 overall, 0-1 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse squad will play at Duquesne (5-2) Friday at 4 p.m. and then return home to host Davidson (6-2) Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Last week Ohio State lost, 9-4, to No. 5 North Carolina and 17-8 to No. 8 Maryland at the Atlantic Coast Conference/American Lacrosse Conference Challenge held at Maryland.
A LOOK AT OHIO STATE
The head coach for the Buckeyes is Sue Stimmel. Ohio State is 0-7 overall after two losses in the ACC/ALC Challenge at Maryland. The Buckeyes fell, 9-4 to No. 5 North Carolina and 17-8 to No. 8 Maryland. KC Carter (Sr., Birchrunville, Pa.) leads the team in points with 17 with a team-high 16 goals and an assist. Jessica Patane (So., Farmingdale, N.Y.) is second in points with 12 with eight goals and four assists. Kristen Slahor (So., Ellicott City, Md.) is third in points with eight from four goals and a four assists. Carter has a team-high 11 ground balls for the Buckeyes. Alicia Meredith (Sr., Prospect, Ky.) ranks second with 10. Carter has a team-high 19 draw controls with Kristen Hannon (So., Sykesville, Md.) second with 12. Carter also leads the team in caused turnovers with five. Meredith ranks second with four. In goal, Kristen Gilwee (Fr., Hunt Valley, Md.) started both games last week and is 0-2 on the season while playing in four games. She has a 13.66 goals against average and a .513 saves percentage. Kim Hastings (Sr., Sewickley, Pa.) has played in five games with four starts. She has a 0-4 record. Hastings has a 14.88 goals against average and a .454 saves percentage. A LOOK AT DUQUESNE
The head coach for the Dukes is Michael Scerbo. Duquesne is 5-2 overall prior to a home game against Robert Morris Tuesday. The Dukes had won their last three games including a 19-6 home victory over Howard on March 18. Courtney Tamasitis has a team-high 22 points with 16 goals and six assists. Kelly Mulford ranks second with 19 points from 16 goals and three assists. Ranking third in points is Kathleen McNish with 17. She has four goals and 13 assists. Alison Smith has a team-high 22 ground balls with Mollie Montgomery second at 21. In draw controls, Krista Mann leads the team with 21. Ashley Wood ranks second with 11. Mann has a team-high 16 caused turnovers with Wood second with eight. In goal, Meredith Norris has started all seven games and is 5-2 on the season. She has a 8.57 goals against average and a .450 saves percentage.
OHIO STATE – DUQUESNE SERIES
Ohio State leads the series with Duquesne, 7-2. Ohio State is 3-1 in games played at Duquesne. Last season, in Columbus, Ohio State won, 14-2.

Ohio State (1-0 overall) women’s lacrosse team opened the 2005 season with a 14-2 defeat of Duquesne (2-2) Saturday afternoon on the North Turf Field of the Woody Hayes Athletic Complex. OSU’s Kelly Kremer scored a game-high four goals for the Buckeyes with KC Carter, Brandie Williams, Ashley Evans and Natale Miller two each. Duquesne goals were by Ginger Flocco and Laura App.
Ohio State jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first half with Williams opening the scoring with 47 seconds gone in the game. Carter scored on a free position attempt at 5:17. Kremer scored the next two goals at 9:57, assisted by Kristen Slahor and at 12:26 on a free position attempt. Evans then scored back-to-back goals, the first at 16:09 on a free position attempt and her second at 22:39, assisted by Carter. Carter then scored her second goal at 26:45. Miller added OSU’s ninth goal at 29:25 and Kremer scored at 29:51 to end the half.
The Dukes opened the scoring in the second half at 44:55 with an App goal. OSU’s Kremer scored her fourth goal of the game at 45:53 to make it 11-1. Miller’s second goal of the game came at 47:31 on a free position shot. At 49:56, the Buckeyes made it 13-1 on a goal by Regina Oliver, assisted by Williams. Duquesne’s Flocco made it 13-2 with a goal on a free position shot. Buckeye freshman Molly Gilbert closed out the scoring for the Buckeyes at 55:18 for the final 14-2 score.
OSU’s Kim Hastings was in goal for the Buckeyes. She had eight saves in the game, giving up two goals in her 55:28. Joy DeMarco finished out the game (4:32) for the Buckeyes. Sarah Pacini took the loss in goal for Duquesne giving up 14 goals and recording eight saves.
A LOOK AT DAVIDSON
The Wildcats are coached by Heather Bliss. Davidson is 6-3 on the season prior to playing at Ohio Friday. Last week the Wildcats lost 17-9 at George Washington and won, 7-6, at Lehigh. Eloise Grose has a team-high 33 points with 25 goals and eight assists. Keften Stephens is second with 30 from 17 goals and 13 assists. Sarah Walter ranks third with 25 points. She has 17 goals and eight assists. Anna Mitchell leads the team in ground balls with 21. Emily Diefendorf ranks second with 19. In draw controls, Walter has a team-high 33 with Emily Palmer and Missy Gilbert tied for second with 12 each. Mitchell leads the team in caused turnovers with 12. Gilbert ranks second with 10. In goal, Leslie Smith has started all nine games and is 5-3 on the year. She has a 11.38 goals against average and a .515 saves percentage. Laura Johnson has played in four games and is 1-0 on the season. She has a 6.13 goals against average and a .389 saves percentage.
OHIO STATE – DAVIDSON SERIES
Ohio State leads the series with Davidson, 7-2. The Buckeyes are 4-1 in games played at Ohio State. OSU has won the last sevens games against the Wildcats. Last season, Ohio State won, 15-4, at Davidson.

16th-ranked Ohio State (5-4 overall, 3-0 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team remained undefeated in American Lacrosse Conference play with a 15-4 road victory at Davidson (4-7, 0-4) Sunday afternoon at Belk Turf Field. OSU’s Kelly Kremer scored a game-high five points with four goals and an assist for the Buckeyes with Andrea Fischer adding three points with two goals and an assist. For Davidson, Whitney Diefendorf had two goals and Lindsay Frank a goal and an assist for the Wildcats.
Ohio State’s Kremer opened the scoring with a goal at 2:45 into the game. Davidson’s Diefendorf tied the game at one at 5:11 on a Millie McKeachie assist. Kremer scored again at 6:50 on a free position shot but Diefendorf responded at 7:41 on an assist from Frank to tie the game at two. The Buckeyes took a 3-2 lead with a goal at 11:04 by Melissa Sands, assisted by Kelyn Laws. Goals by Jessica Patane on an assist from Kremer at 16:02 and Kremer’s third goal at 20:13, assisted by Lindsay Weiner gave Ohio State a 5-2 lead. Davidson stopped Ohio State’s three goal run at 25:32 with a score by Brandon Jacob, assisted by Sarah Walter. The Buckeyes scored the next four goals to end the half leading, 9-3. Brandie Williams started the scoring run with a goal at 26:37. Fischer made it 7-3 at 27:16 on an assist from Melissa Sands. Regina Oliver, assisted by Kristen Hannon and Kelyn Laws added an unassisted goal at 27:41 and 29:35, respectively to close out the half.
Davidson opened the second half with Frank scoring at 30:48 to make the score, 9-4. The Buckeyes closed out the game with six unanswered goals to win the game, 15-4. Ashley Evans at 33:33 gave OSU a 10-4 lead. Kremer’s four goal of the game, assisted by Williams came at 35:05. Kristen Hannon scored unassisted at 35:13 to make the lead, 12-4. Pantane’s second goal of the game came at 36:32 on an assist from Molly Gilbert. Danielle Gibson scored at 41:33, unassisted and Fischer’s second goal of the day at 56:54 completed the scoring for the Buckeyes.
In goal, Ohio State’s Kim Hastings picked up the win (5-4), while Joy DeMarco played the final 18:17 of the game for the Buckeyes, making two saves. Davidson’s Laura Johnson took the loss (1-5), collecting two saves in the game.
GILWEE RECORDS CAREER-HIGH 20 SAVES AT MARYLAND
Kristen Gilwee, in her second start of the season recorded a career-high 20 saves at Maryland. That ranks as the third most saves in a game for a Buckeye goalie. Nicole Morris holds the record with 34 against Virginia Tech in 1997 and Megan Barnett’s 21 against Lehigh in 2001 ranks second. Gilwee took the loss against North Carolina making nine saves and giving up nine goals. Against Maryland, she gave up 17 goals. Gilwee has played in four games this season and has a 13.66 goals against average and a .513 saves percentage.
CARTER LEADS TEAM IN FIVE CATEGORIES
KC Carter leads Ohio State in five statistical categories including goals (16), points (17), ground balls (11), draw controls (19) and caused turnovers (5). Last week she had two ground balls and a draw control against North Carolina and recorded a goal, one ground ball and four draw controls at Maryland. Carter has started all seven games this season.
LAWS HAS CAREER-HIGH FOUR POINTS AT MARYLAND
Kelyn Laws scored two goals and added two assists at Maryland for a career-high four points against the Terrapins. Her previous high was three points (two goals and an assist) against Richmond in 2004. One of her scores came on a free position attempt. Laws has played in the last six games and has one start. She has six points on the season with three goals and three assists.
KREMER’S GOAL STREAK AT THREE GAMES
Kelly Kremer (So., Kennett Square, Pa.) scored goals against North Carolina and Maryland to extend her goal scoring streak to three games. She added a ground ball against North Carolina and at Maryland, had a ground ball, an assist and a caused turnover. Kremer has started all seven games this season and has six points (four goals, two assists) on the year.
PATANE HAS THREE POINTS AGAINST MARYLAND
Jessica Patane scored two goals and an assist at Maryland, adding a goal against North Carolina to extend her scoring streak to seven games. She had scored a single goal in each of the first six contests. Against North Carolina, Patane added two ground balls and a caused turnover. Her two goals and three points at Maryland ties her career highs of two goals at Davidson in 2005 and her three points at Stanford in 2006.
WEINER HAS SEASON-HIGH THREE GROUND BALLS VS. NORTH CAROLINA
Lindsay Weiner recorded a season-high three ground balls against North Carolina and has nine on the season ranking third on the team. She added an assist, a draw control and a caused turnover against the Tar Heels. Weiner equaled her career-high of three draw controls at Maryland and added a ground ball in the game. She has started all seven games this season and has four goals and an assist on the season.
MILLER COLLECTS GOALS IN BOTH GAMES LAST WEEK
Natale Miller scored goals against North Carolina and Maryland last weekend. The scores give her four goals on the season. She has played in all seven games with two starts. At Maryland, Miller added a ground ball, a draw control and a caused turnover.
SLAHOR SCORES A FREE POSITION GOAL AGAINST NORTH CAROLINA
Kristen Slahor recorded her fourth goal of the season on a free position shot against North Carolina. It was her second free position goal in three attempts this season. Slahor added a ground ball against the Tar Heels. At Maryland, she had a ground ball and a draw control. Slahor has played in all seven games this season, making six starts. She is third on the team in scoring with four goals and four assists for eight points.
HANNON NOTCHES HER FOURTH GOAL OF THE SEASON
Kristen Hannon recorded a goal at Maryland for her fourth goal of the season. She added a draw control in the contest. Against North Carolina, she had two draw controls and a ground ball. Hannon has played in all seven games this season and has started in six. She has 12 draw controls on the season, ranking second on the squad. Hannon has four goals and an assist on the season.
KREMER NAMED TO 2006 ALC PRESEASON TEAM
Kelly Kremer has been named to the 2006 American Lacrosse Conference Preseason Team by a vote of the league coaches. In her freshman season with the Buckeyes, she was named the ALC Rookie of the Year and a second team ALC selection. Kremer started all 16 games last season, recording team-highs of 38 goals and 44 points, adding six assists, 22 ground ball, 17 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers. She was named to the 2005 National All-Rookie Team by womenslacrosse.com. OHIO STATE PICKED FIFTH IN THE ALC
Ohio State was picked to finish fifth in the conference by a vote of the league coaches. NCAA and ALC defending champion Northwestern was tabbed to win the conference, received 36 votes and all six first place ballots. Penn State, with 27 votes, was picked to finish second, one point ahead of third place John Hopkins with 26. Vanderbilt was selected to finish fourth with 19 votes, Ohio State fifth with 10 votes and Ohio sixth with 8 votes.
HEAD COACH Sue Stimmel
Sue Stimmel is in her 11th season as the head coach for the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team. A 1984 graduate of Temple University, Stimmel is the only coach that the Buckeye program has had. She spent six years has the head coach of Denison prior to coming to OSU. Stimmel is 79-78 at Ohio State (11 years) and is 155-96 in her 16-year career. The 2003 season was her most successful with a program-high 14 wins, finishing the regular season ranked 11th nationally and making the school’s second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship, advancing to the quarterfinals. Her squad won the 2003 American Lacrosse Conference Championship and she was named the ALC Coach of the Year and was later named the 2003 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Regional Coach of the Year.
REVIEWING THE NORTH CAROLINA GAME
Ohio State (0-6 overall) lost a 9-4 decision to fifth-ranked North Carolina (6-3) at the Atlantic Coast Conference/American Lacrosse Conference Challenge hosted by Maryland. OSU’s Natale Miller, Jessica Patane, Kelly Kremer and Kristen Slahor scored goals for the Buckeyes. North Carolina’s Brooke Dieringer and Melissa McCarthy scored three goals each for the Tar Heels with Christina Juras, Meg Freshwater and Kelly Taylor adding a goal each.
Ohio State’s Kremer opened the scoring with an unassisted goal with 2:09 gone in the game. Dieringer, with an assist from Stephanie Scurachio, tied the game at 2:31. North Carolina took a 2-1 lead with a free position shot by McCarthy at 12:51. The Tar Heels made it 3-1 at 13:20 with a Juras goal, assisted by Dieringer. McCarthy’s second goal at 14:32 gave North Carolina a 4-1 lead. Ohio State closed out the scoring in the half at 20:20 with a Patane goal, assisted by Lindsay Weiner, cutting the Tar Heel lead to 4-2.
North Carolina opened the second half with four consecutive goals to take an 8-2 lead. The run began with Dieringer’s second goal at 34:40. Freshwater scored at 36:51 to make the lead, 6-2. McCarthy, with her third goal of the game, made it 7-2, Tar Heels, at 38:03. A goal by Dieringer completed the four-goal run at 41:52, assisted by Julie Ryan, to open an 8-2 lead. Slahor’s free position goal at 43:53 for the Buckeyes made it 8-3. Taylor scored unassisted at 47:59 for the Tar Heels to make it 9-3. OSU’s Miller added an unassisted goal at 49:20 to complete the scoring for the 9-4 North Carolina win.
In goal for Ohio State, Kristen Gilwee played the entire 60 minutes, making nine saves while giving up nine goals for the loss. Tar Heel Kristen Hordy had the win for North Carolina, making eight saves and giving up four goals.
REVIEWING THE MARYLAND GAME
Ohio State (0-7 overall) women’s lacrosse team lost to eighth-ranked Maryland (8-3), 17-8 in the second day of play in the Atlantic Coast Conference/American Lacrosse Conference Challenge hosted by Maryland. Ohio State’s Kelyn Laws and Jessica Patane scored two goals each for the Buckeyes with Laws adding two assists and Patane one. Maryland’s Katie Doolittle and Katie Princiotto each scored a game-high four goals in the contest.
Maryland opened the scoring with two Doolittle goals, the first at 0:16 into the game, assisted by Krista Pellizzi and the second at 1:18, assisted by Kelly Kasper. Delia Cox made it 3-0 at 2:06 with a free position shot and Doolittle’s third goal at 2:10 was assisted by Casey Magor. The Terrapins took the lead to 5-0 with a Pellizzi goal at 6:20, assisted by Doolittle. Ohio State stopped the scoring run at 7:36 with a KC Carter goal on a Patane assist. Kasper made it 6-1 at 11:50, assisted by Pellizzi. Consecutive goals by Princiotto took the Maryland lead to 8-1. Her first goal was at 12:17 and the second at 17:54. It was assisted by Becky Clipp. Buckeye Natale Miller made it 8-2 at 31:25. The Terrapins responded with a Pellizzi goal at 23:43, assisted by Cox. A Kelly Kremer goal with an assist from Laws made it 9-3 at 28:13. Maryland closed out the first half scoring with a Clipp goal at 29:57 for a 10-3 lead.
Ohio State opened the second half with a three-goal run to cut the lead to 10-6. Laws opened the half with a score at 31:38. A Kristen Hannon goal, assisted by Laws, came at 33:26. The Buckeyes cut the lead to four with a free position goal by Laws at 38:47. At 43:15, a Doolittle free position goal made it 11-6. Cox took the lead to six, at 12-6, with a goal at 44:04. OSU’s Patane scored at 44:35, assisted by Kremer, to make it 12-7. Maryland scored the next five goals to open a 17-7 lead. The run began with two Princiotto goals, the first, a free position shot at 48:43 and the second at 49:03, assisted by Kasper. Kasper then scored, with a Cox assist, at 49:46. Terrapin Magor, assisted by Kasper, scored at 56:47 and a Cox goal at 57:27 completed the run. OSU’s Patane closed out the scoring at 59:01 for the final 17-8 Maryland win.
In goal, OSU’s Kristen Gilwee took the loss for the Buckeyes while making a career-high 20 saves. Terrapin Allie Buote played 59:01 for Maryland, in the win, giving up eight goals and making four saves. Lynne Cooper played the final 59 seconds for Maryland in goal.
