Women’s Volleyball Marisa Main and Danielle Meyer Named to the 2006 AVCA Mideast All-Region Team – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Women’s volleyball setter Marisa Main (Sr., Louisville, Ky.) and middle block Danielle Meyer (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) have been named to the 2006 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Mideast All-Region Team. The selections were made by a panel of coaches.
Main has earned AVCA All-Region honors the last three years and has been twice named an AVCA second team All-American. She is a three-time All-Big Ten selection. Main is averaging 12.95 assists per game on the season. She is averaging 1.57 kills, 2.31 digs and .42 blocks per game while hitting a team-high .364.
Meyer was an AVCA All-Region selection in 2005 and was named a third-team All-American. She is a two-time All-Big Ten selection. Meyer leads Ohio State in points per game with a 5.02 average. She is averaging 4.26 kills, 1.98 digs and .83 blocks per game while hitting .302. A middle blocker last season, Meyer played the first 22 matches this season at outside hitter. She returned to the middle for the last 10 matches (10-0 record) and is hitting .477 and averaging 1.29 blocks per game during that time.
Ohio State (25-7 overall, 13-7 Big Ten, fourth place), the 11th seed in the NCAA Championship, continues play this week in the Seattle Regional. The Buckeyes will face sixth-seeded Washington (27-4), the NCAA defending national champion, Friday at 7:30 p.m. PT in the Bank of America Arena. Third-seeded Penn State (31-2) plays 14th-seeded Purdue (23-10) in the first semifinal Friday at 5 p.m. PT. The Friday winners return Saturday at 6 p.m. to play for a berth in the NCAA Championship semifinals, Thursday, Dec. 14 at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb.
