COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 14th-ranked Ohio State (6-1) women’s volleyball team will play host to the Buckeye Classic this weekend in St. John Arena and Centerburg High School. The Classic begins with Brigham Young (5-0) playing Duke (5-1) at 5 p.m. and Ohio State hosting Pittsburgh (6-4) at 7 p.m. Friday in St. John Arena. The Tournament continues Saturday at Centerburg High School with the winners and loses meeting in 5 and 7 p.m. matches. Ohio State will play in the 7 p.m. match. Last week Ohio State won four road matches. The Buckeyes won at Cleveland State, 3-2 (19-30, 30-18, 30-26, 33-35, 15-10) Tuesday and then won the Bowling Green Invitational with 3-0 wins over East Carolina (30-27, 30-17, 30-28) and Chicago State (30-18, 30-20, 30-20) and a 3-2 victory over host Bowling Green (30-23, 30-24, 27-30, 26-30, 15-9).
A LOOK AT OHIO STATE
The Buckeyes are coached by Jim Stone, the 2004 Big Ten and the American Volleyball Coaches Association Mideast Region Coach of the Year. Ohio State is 6-1 on the season recording 3-0 wins over East Carolina and Chicago State and 3-2 victories at Cleveland State and at Bowling Green. Danielle Meyer (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) leads the Buckeyes in kills per game with a 5.56 per game average. Ami Stevens (So., Centerburg, Ohio) ranks second at 3.75. Stevens is the top percentage hitter at .323 with Meyer second at .303. Setter Marisa Main (Jr., Louisville, Ky.) has an 11.36 assist per game average. Ashley Kiel (Jr., Allenton, Wis.) has a team-high 14 ace serves (.56 per game) with Meyer second with eight (.32). Defensively, Stevens has a team-high 3.06 digs per game average with Brittany Dahms (So., Byron, Ill.) second at 3.73. At the net, Meyer is averaging a team-leading 1.00 blocks per game with five solos and 20 assists. Nicole Britenriker (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) ranks second in blocking with a .68 average on two solos and 15 assists.
A LOOK AT PITTSBURGH
The Panthers are coached by Chris Beerman. Pittsburgh is 6-4 on the season. Last weekend they lost 0-3 (16-30, 14-30, 29-31) to Maryland, defeated American University, 3-0 (30-25, 30-17, 24-30, 25-30, 15-6) and lost 0-3 (17-30, 22-30, 27-30) to Miami (OH). The Panthers host Marshall on Wednesday. The team leader in kills per game is Diana Andreyko with a 4.69 per game average. Gini Ullery ranks second at 3.63. Jessica Moses ranks as the top percentage hitter at .255 with Ullery second at .243. At setter, Azadeh Boroumand is averaging 10.88 assists per game with Nicole Taurence at 7.71. Andreyko leads the team in ace serves with 24 (.69 per game) with Stephanie Ross ranked second with 16 (.47). Defensively, Megan McGrane a team-high 4.57 digs per game with Ullery ranked second at 2.59. At the net, Allie Cherven leads the team in blocks per game with a .91 average on four solos and 17 assists. Cherven was named to the Pitt Invitational All-Tournament Team last week. Moses ranks second at .80 with seven solos and 17 assists.
OHIO STATE-PITTSBURGH SERIES
Ohio State has 12-8 lead in the series with Pittsburgh. The Buckeyes are 8-3 in matches played in Columbus. The last meeting with the Panthers came in 1999, in Pittsburgh, a 3-0 (15-0, 15-5, 15-10) on-court OSU win that was later ruled a forfeit.
A LOOK AT BRIGHAM YOUNG
The Cougars are coached by Jason Watson. Brigham Young is 5-0 on the season picking up a 3-0 (30-25, 30-26, 30-24) at Idaho State and a 3-1 (24-30, 30-24, 30-26, 30-14) victory at home against Utah State. Erica Lott and Chelsea Goodman share team-high honors averaging 3.89 kills per game with Lindsy Hartsock third at 3.32. Hartsock ranks first in hitting percentage at .453 with Rachel Dyer second at .348. Setter Lauren Evans is averaging 13.42 assists per game. Hartsock and Lauren Evans share team-high honors with eight ace serves (.42) each. Defensively, Annie Kemp has a team-high 2.87 digs per game average with Evans second at 2.26. At the net, Evans leads a trio of student-athletes that average one-plus blocks per game. Evans is the team leader at 1.26 on 24 assist. Hartsock ranks second at 1.16 with a solo and 21 assists with Dyer third at 1.11 (21 assists).
OHIO STATE-BRIGHAM YOUNG SERIES
Brigham Young leads the series with Ohio State, 6-0. Four matches have been played in Provo and two at neutral sites. The last meeting came in 2003, a 3-1 (32-34, 30-28, 30-23, 30-28) Cougar win in Provo.
A LOOK AT DUKE
The Blue Devils are coached by Jolene Nogel. Duke is 5-1 on the season after winning the Duke Invitational last weekend. The Blue Devils defeated Southern Methodist, 3-2 (30-25, 30-24, 23-30, 27-30, 15-8), Charlotte, 3-0 (30-22, 30-25, 30-17) and Cornell, 3-1 (30-24, 27-30, 30-24, 30-24). Duke’s Carrie DeMange was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player with Tealle Hunkus and Jenny Shull named to the All-Tournament Team. DeMange leads the team in kills per game with a 4.50 average. Hunkus ranks second at 2.59. Sam Fisher has a team-high .306 hitting percentage with DeMange second at .274. Setter Ali Hausfeld has a 12.50 assist per game average. Sarah Salem leads the team in ace serves with 10 (.45 per game) and Hausfeld and Shull tied for second with eight (.36) each. Defensively, Shull leads the team in digs per game with a 5.00 average. Hunkus ranks second at 4.14. At the net, Jourdan Norman has a team-high 1.56 blocks per game average with three solos and 25 assists. Ranking second is DeMange with a 1.64 average with five solos and 31 assists.

This is the first meeting between the two schools.
LAST WEEK AGAINST CLEVELAND STATE
No. 12 Ohio State (3-1) women’s volleyball team used a triple-double (54 assists, 14 kills and 14 digs) by setter Marisa Main and career-highs of 31.5 points and 29 kills from Danielle Meyer to defeat Cleveland State (3-2) in five games (19-30, 30-18, 30-26, 33-35, 15-10). It was Main’s fourth career triple-double with the previous three being set as a freshman at Xavier. CSU’s Nickole Kennedy posted a team-high 18 kills for the Vikings with Jenna Maddocks adding 15. For the match, Cleveland State hit .196 to OSU’s .187 while the Buckeyes had a 79-61 advantage in kills. Ohio State had an eight to six advantage in ace serves with OSU’s Ashley Kiel recording a season-high five. The Buckeyes gave up 10 service errors to eight for the Vikings. Defensively, the Buckeyes had a 93-70 advantage in digs with Buckeye Brittany Dahms recording a career-high 25. At the net, Cleveland State had an eight to six margin in total blocks. CSU’s Stiefker recorded a match-high six blocks with a solo and five assists. At setter, OSU’s Main had a season-high 54 assists while Mel Snyder collected 47 for the Vikings.
LAST WEEK AGAINST EAST CAROLINA
No. 12 Ohio State (4-1), behind a season-high 15.5 points from Ashley Kiel, defeated East Carolina (3-3), 3-0 (30-27, 30-17, 30-28) in the first day of play at the Bowling Green Invitational. Kiel produced a season-high 11 kills (.320), three ace serves and two blocks (one solo, one assist). Danielle Meyer added 14.5 points with 14 kills (.235) and an assist block. East Carolina’s Pam Ferris recorded a team-high 9.5 points with nine kills (.273) and an assist block. For the match, Ohio State hit .322 to .196 for East Carolina. OSU had a 58-34 advantage in kills and outserved the Pirates, 7-2 in the match. Both Britenriker and Kiel had three aces each in the match for OSU. The Buckeyes gave up 12 service errors to six for the Pirates. Defensively, East Carolina had a slim 26-25 edge in digs with Trish Monroe collecting a match-high 12. At the net, the Pirates had a four to three advantage in team blocks with Pirate Bevin collecting a match-high four blocks with a solo and three assists. Setter Marisa Main had a match-high 41 assists for the Buckeyes to 27 for Pirate Heidi Krug.
LAST WEEK AGAINST CHICAGO STATE
No. 12 Ohio State (5-1) women’s volleyball team, behind a season-high 17 points from Ami Stevens defeated Chicago State (0-8), 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-20) in the second round of the Bowling Green Invitational Saturday. Stevens had a match-high 15 kills (.387), one ace serve, two assist blocks and eight digs against the Cougars. Ashley Kiel contributed 14 points for the Buckeyes with 13 kills (.458), an ace serve and five digs. Chicago State’s Zuzana Pokovicova scored a team-high 8.5 points for the Cougars with Shakeila Castile-Jones adding 7.5. Pokovicova had six kills, two ace serve and an assist block while Castile-Jones recorded five kills, two solo blocks and one assist block. In the match, Ohio State out hit the Cougars, .219 to -.040. The Buckeyes had a 46-23 margin in kills and a seven to four advantage in ace serves. OSU’s Danielle Meyer equaled her career high with four aces in the match. Defensively, OSU edged the Cougars in digs, 44-42, with Chicago State’s Katie Zillner recording a match-high 15. At the net, The Buckeyes had a 7.5 to 5 margin in team blocks with OSU’s Meyer recording a match-high five assist blocks. Buckeye setter Marisa Main had 21 assists in the match with Schardt adding 13. Catherine Everist recorded 15 assists for Chicago State.
LAST WEEK AGAINST BOWLING GREEN
The 12th-ranked Ohio State (6-1) women’s volleyball team defeated Bowling Green (4-4), 3-2 (30-23, 30-24, 27-30, 26-30, 15-9) to capture the Bowling Green Invitational Championship Saturday night. OSU’s Danielle Meyer had 31 points and Ami Stevens added 27.5 for the Buckeyes. Meyer recorded 25 kills (.388), two ace serves, seven blocks (one solo and six assists) and 17 digs with Stevens collecting match-highs of 26 kills (.352) and 18 digs, adding an ace serve and an assist block. Bowling Green’s Emily Manser scored a team-high 18.5 points with 16 kills, a solo block and three assists with Corrie Mills adding 16 points with 10 kills, two ace serves and eight assist blocks. For the match Ohio State hit .299 to .200 for Bowling Green. OSU had an 84-64 margin in kills and edged the Falcons, 6-5 in ace serves. OSU gave up 11 service errors to 10 for the Falcons. Defensively, Ohio State had an 86-63 advantage in digs while the Falcons collected 16.5 team blocks to OSU’s 11. OSU’s Stevens and Meyer were named to the All-Tournament team.
THE 2004 BUCKEYE CLASSIC
Ohio State won the 2004 Buckeye Classic with 3-0 wins over Florida International and Montana State and a 3-1 victory over Northeastern. The Buckeyes finished with a 3-0 record in the Classic with Montana State finishing second at 2-1. Northeastern was third at 1-2 and Florida International fourth at 0-3. OSU’s Stacey Gordon was named the Classic Most Valuable Player with Marisa Main and Maya Mapp honored as member of the All-Tournament Team.
MEYER HAS CAREER-HIGH 29 KILLS AT CLEVELAND STATE
Danielle Meyer recorded a career-high 29 kills in OSU’s 3-2 win at Cleveland State last week. She hit .221 in the match, adding 14 digs and two total blocks against the Vikings. Against Bowling Green, Meyer had a career-high 31 points against the Falcons with 25 kills (.388), two aces and seven blocks (1-6), adding a career-high 17 digs. She was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Bowling Green Invitational. Meyer has recorded double-figure kills in six of the seven matches this season and has twice recorded double-figure digs.
STEVENS MAKES STRONG COMEBACK
Ami Stevens had missed two-plus matches prior to the Bowling Green Invitational but made up for it with her play last weekend. Named to the All-Tournament Team, she averaged 4.73 kills and 3.18 digs per game and hit .364 in the three matches. Stevens recorded a career-high 26 kills against Bowling Green and had a season-high of 18 digs against the Falcons. Previously she had 11 kills and nine digs against East Carolina and 15 kills and eight digs against Chicago State.
MAIN RECORDS TRIPLE-DOUBLE AT CLEVELAND STATE
For the fourth time in her career, Marisa Main recorded a triple-double. At Cleveland State last week, she had 14 kills, 54 assists and 14 digs for her triple-double while hitting .387 and adding two blocks. Main produced three triple-doubles during her freshman season at Xavier. Against Bowling Green she recorded a season-high 64 against the Falcons and her second double-figure digs (11) match of the season.
KIEL HAS THREE DOUBLE-FIGURE KILLS MATCHES
At the Bowling Green Invitational, Ashley Kiel recorded three double-figure matches including a season-high 13 kills against Chicago State and Bowling Green. She began the weekend with 11 kills against East Carolina. Kiel also recorded a season-high 14 digs against the Falcons. Earlier in the week, at Cleveland State, she recorded a season-high five ace serves against the Vikings and added 13 digs. Kiel has had three matches with four or more ace serves this season.
MILLER EQUALS SEASON-HIGH 12 KILLS AT CLEVELAND STATE
Amanda Miller equaled her season-high of 12 kills at Cleveland State last week after setting the high against Long Beach State the previous week. She recorded a career-high eight digs against the Vikings.
BRITENRIKER POSTS A CAREER-HIGH 13 KILLS AGAINST CLEVELAND STATE
Nicole Britenriker recorded a career-high 13 kills at Cleveland State last week. She contributed nine kills against East Carolina and seven against Chicago State and Bowling Green. She added a career-high seven digs in the Chicago State and Bowling Green matches.
JONES EQUALS CAREER-HIGH OF SEVEN KILLS AGAINST CLEVELAND STATE
Felicia Jones equaled her career-high of seven kills against Cleveland State last week. She previously recorded sevens kills against Long Beach State. Jones also had a season-high three digs against the Vikings.
KASTEIN NOW 21ST IN OHIO STATE CAREER DIGS
With 30 digs last week, Rebecca Kastein, has moved to 21st on the Ohio State career digs list with 871. She recorded a season-high 13 digs at Cleveland State, adding eight against Chicago State and nine at Bowling Green.
BUCKEYES HAVE FOUR TELEVISED MATCHES
Ohio State is scheduled to appear in four televised matches this season. The Buckeyes will appear twice in the eight regional broadcasts scheduled by Comcast SportsNet Chicago. OSU will host Purdue Friday, Sept. 23 in a match that will be delayed telecast Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. ET. Ohio State’s Friday, Oct. 21 match at Minnesota will be delayed telecast Saturday, Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m. ET. The Buckeyes have two additional televised matches this season. OSU will host Wisconsin Saturday, Oct. 29 in match with will be delayed telecast by ESPN2 Sunday, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. ET and will play at Penn State, at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2 in a live CSTV (College Sports Television) broadcast.
OSU NOW 14TH IN CSTV/AVCA COACHES POLL
The CSTV (College Sports Television/AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll released this week by the AVCA has Ohio State ranked 14th nationally. The Buckeyes received 736 votes. The Buckeyes fell from 12th (823 points) last week. OSU finished the 2004 season with a 30-4 overall record and was ranked sixth in the final 2004 poll. The Buckeyes are one of four Big Ten squads ranked in the top-14 of the poll. Others include Penn State at fourth, Minnesota fifth and Wisconsin 13th. Purdue and llinois also received votes.
MAIN AND STEVENS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG TEN TEAM
The Big Ten Conference announced that Ohio State setter Marisa Main (Jr., Louisville, Ky.) and outside hitter Ami Stevens (So., Centerburg, Ohio) have been named to the 2005 Preseason All-Big Ten Volleyball Team by a vote of the conference coaches. The Buckeyes were picked to finish fourth in the coaches’ preseason poll. Penn State was picked to finish first with Minnesota second and Wisconsin third.
HEAD COACH Jim Stone
Jim Stone is in his 24th season at Ohio State. He has a 477-262 record with the Buckeyes and is 263-151 in Big Ten play. His squads have won Big Ten Championships in 1989, 1991 and 1994 and finished tied for second in 2004 being named the Big Ten Coach of the Year. He was the 1991 Volleyball Monthly National Coach of the Year and the Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1989, 1991, 1994 and 2004. Under Stone, Ohio State has participated in the NCAA championship in 13 of the last 16 years, advancing to the national semifinals in 1991 and 1994. Stone’s coaching career record includes three years at Wyoming (1979-1981). His 26-year career record is 527-304.
JOBST AND DIPRONIO TO BE INDUCTED INTO OSU ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Outside hitter Gabriele Jobst (1991-94) and setter Audrey DiPronio (1988-90) will be inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall Of Fame, Friday, Sept. 16 and will be honored at halftime of the Ohio State-San Diego State football game on Saturday, Sept. 17. Previous women’s volleyball players in the Hall of Fame include Karen Alsbrook (1977-79), Lisa Bettio (1982-85), Laura Davis (1991-94), Holly O’Leary (1987-90), Mary Ormsby (1977-80) Vanessa Wouters (1996-97) and Leisa Wissler (1988-91).
STEVENS SPENDS THE SUMMER WITH US JUNIOR NATIONAL TEAM
Outside hitter Ami Stevens was selected to the 12-player United State Junior National Team that traveled to Turkey to play in the FIVB Junior Women’s U-20 Volleyball World Championship, July 23-28. The squad finished 1-4 in pool play. She had been in training at the United States Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y. since July 8. Stevens was also selected to the team in 2004.

#1 Rebecca Kastein (Libero/Defensive Specialist, 5-8, Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) – 2005–season-high 13 digs at Cleveland State / started 22 matches at libero and three at defensive specialist in 2004 – averaged 3.27 digs per game with 18 matches with double-figure digs – career-high 29 digs at Minnesota in the NCAA Regional Championship match.
