Ohio State Rowing Celebrates 10 Years of Excellence at Awards Banquet – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rowing team closed the 2004-05 season with its annual awards banquet Sunday. Ohio State head coach, Andy Teitelbaum, presented awards to the members of the 2005 squad, recognized the team’s 11 seniors and paid tribute to the many former OSU rowers, including current assistant coach Midge McPhail, who were in attendance to celebrate the program’s tenth season.
Senior Diana Albrecht (Dresden, Germany/Vitzthum Gymnasium) received honors for the 2005 Most Valuable Rower. The Golden Buckeye award, which honors the spirit and the most inspirational member, was given to senior Maggie Kathman (Lakeside Park, Ky./Notre Dame). Senior Christina Neveu (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/West Geauga) earned accolades for the Most Improved Rower. Sophomore Angela Dean (Elizabeth City, N.C./Elizabeth City State College) received the 2005 Novice of the Year award.
The team also recognized its 11 seniors and 44 Ohio State Scholar-Athletes. Senior captains Albrecht and Kathman were both honored for their contributions to the 2005 team. Albrecht, a member of the Buckeyes’ top boat, earned accolades as First Team All-America, all-region and all-conference. Albrecht and Kathman were both honored as Academic All-Big Ten.
Seniors Meredith Corley (Alexandria, Va./ T.C. Williams), Megan Gordon (Arnold, Md./ St. Mary’s), Neveu, Amanda Purcell (Hilliard, Ohio/ Hilliard Darby), Ashley Routson (Montgomery, NY/ Valley Central) and Franziska Schubert (Dresden, Germany/Vitzthum Gymnasium) were also all named Academic All-Big Ten. Seniors Christy Alge (St. Mary’s, Ohio/Memorial), Laureen Ellison (Edgewood, Ky./Notre Dame) and Rachel Helfrich (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) were all also recognized for their contributions to the squad.
