Ohio State Men’s and Women’s Gymnastics Complete Exhibition Against Japan All-Stars – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s gymnastics team broke from regular-season action to take on the Japan College All-Stars Thursday night at St. John Arena in Columbus, Oho. The women’s team claimed a 190.350-187.800 victory, while the men’s squad dropped a 228.200-214.600-decision.
The Ohio State women’s team was led by freshman Helina Manesis (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck), who claimed first on both bars with a score of 9.725 and beam with a mark of 9.8. Manesis also finished the evening with a second-place finish on vault with a tally of 9.6. Senior Elizabeth Meaney (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) and Kaylin Schlecht (Marion, Ohio/River Valley) also contributed solid performances. Meaney tied for first on beam with a 9.8, while Schlecht placed second on floor with a 9.575.
Freshman Mike Marino (Ellington, Conn./Tim Daggett’s Gold Medal Gym.) led the way for the No. 1 Buckeyes in the all-around, compiling a 52.950. Marino’s highest score of the meet was a 9.250 on pommel horse. DJ Bucher (Fr., Mason, Ohio/Queen City Gym.) recorded the top score of the night with a 9.850 on parallel bars. Senior co-captain Randy Monahan (Elizabethtown, Pa./Central Pa. Academy Gym.) rounded out the top Buckeye performers with a 9.75 on high bar.
The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team closes out its 2005 home schedule with a meet against No. 21 Arizona at 7 p.m. Saturday. The men’s squad travels to Norman, Okla., to face No. 4 Oklahoma at 8 p.m. EST Saturday at the Lloyd Noble Center.
