COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 16th-ranked Ohio State (4-4 overall, 2-0 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse squad returns to play in the American Lacrosse Conference when the Buckeyes travel to Davidson (3-5, 0-3) for a 1 p.m., Sunday match at Belk Turf Field.
A LOOK AT OHIO STATE
The head coach for the Buckeyes is Sue Stimmel. Ohio State is 4-4 on the season and 2-0 in the American Lacrosse Conference. Last week Ohio State lost neutral site games to No. 5 North Carolina, 10-9 and to No. 11 Maryland, 13-8 in Annapolis, Md. at the ALC/ACC Challenge.
OHIO STATE BY THE NUMBERS
Ohio State’s Kelly Kremer has a team-high 26 points for the Buckeyes with 23 goals and three assists. Regina Oliver (Sr., Pottstown, Pa.) ranks second with 18 points with 14 goals and four assists. Kristen Slahor (Fr., Ellicott City, Md.) has 15 points (5-10) with KC Carter (Jr., Birchrunville, Pa.) at 14 points (11-3). Oliver has a team-high 35 ground balls with Brandie Williams (Sr., Hatboro, Pa.) second with 26. Oliver also leads the squad in caused turnover with 24. Williams is second with 22. Ashley Evans (Sr., Ellicott City, Md.) leads the team in draw controls with 13. Oliver is second with 12 and Kremer has 11. In goal, Kim Hastings (Jr., Sewickley, Pa.) is 4-4 on the season, starting all eight games. She has an 8.82 goals against average and an .477 saves percentage.
A LOOK AT DAVIDSON
The head coach for the Wildcats is Heather Bliss. Davidson has a 3-5 overall record and is 0-3 in the American Lacrosse Conference. The Wildcats have lost their last two games, falling to George Washington, 19-6, on March 18 and Ohio, 10-3, on March 20. Prior to hosting Ohio State, Davidson will face Canisius College, Thursday and Oregon, Saturday, in home contests.
DAVIDSON BY THE NUMBERS
Davidson’s Lindsay Frank has a team-high 17 points with nine goals and a team-high eight assists. Eloise Grose is second in points with 14 with a team-high 11 goals and three assists. Catharine Chapin leads the team with 19 ground balls with Anna Mitchell second with 16. Frank has team-highs of 12 draw controls and nine caused turnovers. Missy Gilbert ranks second in draw controls with nine while Mitchell is second in caused turnovers with six. In goal, Laura Johnson has five starts on the season with a 1-4 record. She has a 14.83 goals against average and a .367 saves percentage. Leslie Smith has started three games and is 2-1 on the season. She has a 9.55 goals against average and a .547 saves percentage.
OHIO STATE – DAVIDSON SERIES
Ohio State lead the series with Davidson, 6-2. The Buckeyes have won the last six meetings with the Wildcats and are 2-1 at Davidson. The Buckeyes lost the first two meetings with the Wildcats, losing 10-8 at Davidson in 1996 and winning 8-6 in Columbus in 1997. OSU’s first win was in 1998, a 16-7 victory at Davidson. The Buckeyes won 10-9 in overtime in 1999 and 13-10 in 2000 in home matches. The series resumed in 2002 as an ALC opponent. The Buckeyes won 13-3 in 2002 in Columbus and won 17-3 in 2003 at Davidson. Last season, the Buckeyes won 17-10 in Columbus.
THE LAST GAME AGAINST DAVIDSON
In 2004, Ohio State recorded its first win in conference play with a 17-10 home victory over Davidson. OSU’s Regina Oliver scored three of her four goals in the first 10 minutes of the game to help OSU build a 6-0 lead. OSU held a 9-2 halftime margin and had a 14-4 lead when Davidson scored five straight goals to cut the lead to 15-10. Two OSU goals ended the scoring in a 17-10 Buckeye win. Oliver had a game-high four goals and two assists. OSU’s KC Carter added three goals and Amy Tulk two. Wildcat Eloise Grose had a team-high four points for Davidson with two goals and two assists. In goal, Davidson’s Leslie Smith took the loss and recorded 12 saves. OSU’s Kim Hastings started in goal, playing the first half and recorded two saves. Taryn Bowen started the second half, playing 12 minutes, and gave up two goals. Joy DeMarco saw her first action of the season, playing 18 minutes and recording five saves while giving up six goals.
REVIEWING THE NORTH CAROLINA GAME
Regina Oliver’s five goals was not enough to hold off fifth-ranked North Carolina in a 10-9 defeat to the Tar Heels in the American Lacrosse Conference/Atlantic Coast Conference Challenge played in Annapolis, Md. Oliver scored four second half goal to close within one of North Carolina as time ran out. Buckeye Natale Miller added two goals for OSU. Tar Heel Allison Higgins had two goals and two assists for North Carolina while Jess Allen had three goals, including the game winner at 58:38. Kristen Hordy had four saves for North Carolina while OSU’s Kim Hastings had 10.
REVIEWING THE MARYLAND GAME
Ohio State held a 6-4 lead early in the second half before Maryland came back with an 8-0 run to defeat Ohio State, 13-8 in the American Lacrosse Conference/Atlantic Coast Conference Challenge played in Annapolis, Md. OSU’s Kristen Slahor had a team-high three points with a goal and two assists, while Ashley Evans contributed two goals and Regina Oliver added a goal and an assist. Acacia Walker and Jessica Dorney scored three goals each for North Carolina. Terrapin Kirah Miles had nine saves in the win, while OSU’s Kim Hastings took the loss giving up 12 goals and making two saves. Joy DeMarco played the final 14:16 for OSU recording a save and giving up a goal.
OHIO STATE RANKED 16TH IWLCA RANKINGS
Ohio State’s fell to 16th in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Poll after losing to fifth-ranked North Carolina and 11th-ranked Maryland last week. OSU has 82 votes in the poll this week down from 107 last week.
KREMER, OSU’S TOP SCORER
Kelly Kremer had a goal in each game last week to extend her goal scoring streak to eight games. She has a team-high 23 goals and has a team-leading 26 points for the Buckeyes. Kremer posted a goal and two draw controls against North Carolina and had a goal and one draw control against Maryland.
OLIVER POSTS CAREER HIGH FIVE GOALS AGAINST NORTH CAROLINA
Regina Oliver had a career-high five goals in OSU’s 10-9 loss at North Carolina. She had previously scored four goals, five times in her career. She added five ground balls, a season-high four draw controls and a caused turnover against the Tar Heels. In the Maryland game, Oliver posted a goal and an assist, adding two ground balls, three draw controls and four caused turnovers.
OLIVER TIED FOR FIRST IN CAUSED TURNOVERS NATIONALLY
In the NCAA statistics released this week, Regina Oliver is tied for first in the nation with Alana Chan of Canisius in caused turnovers with a 3.00 per game average. Oliver has 24 caused turnovers in eight games while Chan has nine in three games. In ground ball, Oliver ranks fourth nationally with a 4.38 per game average.
WILLIAMS RANKS THIRD NATIONALLY IN CAUSED TURNOVERS
Brandie Williams, with a 2.75 caused turnovers per game average, ranks third nationally in NCAA statistics released this week. She has 22 caused turnovers in eight games this season.
EVANS HAS THIRD TWO-GOAL GAME
Ashley Evans scored two goals against Maryland to give OSU a 6-4 lead early in the second half. It was the third time this season that she has had two goals in a game. She previously did it against Duquesne and Virginia Tech. Evans scored one of her two goals on free position shots, adding two ground balls and two caused turnovers. She picked up a ground ball and a caused turnover in the North Carolina game. Evans leads Ohio State in draw controls with 13, ranks third in caused turnovers with 12 and has 12 ground balls on the season.
OLIVER MOVES TO SIXTH IN CAREER ASSISTS
With an assist against Maryland, Regina Oliver now has 40 career assists and has moved into sole possession of sixth place on the OSU career assists list. She had been tied for sixth with Megan Mirick (1999-02) at 39. Oliver needs five assists to move past No. 5 Shannon Wilson (2000-03) with 44.
OLIVER NOW TIED FOR SECOND IN CAREER GOALS
With five goals against North Carolina and one against Maryland, Regina Oliver has moved into a tie for second in OSU career goal with 110. She is tied with Shannon Wilson (2000-03). Oliver passed Tracey Bounds (2000-03) with 107 goals. Oliver needs 34 goals to pass Megan Mirick (1999-02), the OSU career leader with 143.
WILLIAMS MOVES TO FOURTH IN CAREER CAUSED TURNOVERS
Brandie Williams posted five caused turnovers last week with two against North Carolina and three against Maryland. She now has 69 in her career and has moved to fourth on the Ohio State career caused turnovers list. Williams passed Trisha Miller (1999-02) with 65 and Trish Derwart (1999-02) with 67.
HASTINGS MOVES TO FOURTH IN CAREER SAVES
Kim Hastings had 10 saves against North Carolina and 3 against Maryland last week and now has 160 in her career. She has moved to fourth on the Ohio State career saves list passing Jamie Bauer (1997-99) with 159. Hastings needs 15 saves to move past No. 3 Nicole Morris (1997) with 174.

OLIVER NAMED TO ALC PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Regina Oliver has been named to the 2005 Preseason All-Conference Team of the American Lacrosse Conference by a vote of the league’s head coaches. She is a three-time first team ALC all-conference selection and was the 2002 ALC Rookie of the Year and the 2003 ALC Player of the Year. BUCKEYES PICKED TO FINISH SIXTH IN CONFERENCE PLAY
Ohio State has been picked to finish sixth in the ALC. The Buckeyes were 1-5 last season in the ALC, finishing sixth. Northwestern was picked to finish first by the coaches. The projected order of finish follows (first place votes): 1. Northwestern 47 (5); 2. Johns Hopkins 42 (2); 3. Penn State 31; Vanderbilt 31; 5. Ohio 19; 6. Ohio State 18; 7. Davidson 8.
OLIVER NAMED TO PRESEASON TEWAARATON AWARD WATCHLIST
Regina Oliver has been named to the Spring 2005 preseason watchlist of the Tewaaraton Award Foundation. The award, considered the Heisman Award of lacrosse, will be voted upon by coaches and narrowed as the season progresses, ultimately reaching a final list of five women and five men who will constitute the award’s finalist. Oliver, a midfielder for the Buckeyes, is a two-time Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association/U.S. Lacrosse All-American receiving second team honors in 2003 and a third team selection in 2004. She is a three-time American Lacrosse Conference first team selection and was named the 2002 ALC Rookie of the Year and the 2003 ALC Player of the Year.

Kelly Kremer was honored by both insidelacrosse.com and womenslacrosse.com after her four-goal performance against Duquesne last Saturday. InsideLacrosse.com named her an honorable mention player of the week while womenslacrosse.com named her to their honor roll. Playing in her first game as a Buckeye, Kremer scored four goals in six shots including one for two in free position attempts. She added three draw controls and two ground balls in the contest.

Kim Hastings (Jr., Sewickley, Pa.) was named the Division I National Player of the Week by womenslacrosse.com and the American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week for her play against Johns Hopkins and Virginia Tech last week. She recorded 14 saves against Johns Hopkins, adding five ground balls in the contest. From a six-all tied at halftime, she allowed only three second half goals to help secure the win for Ohio State. In the Virginia Tech contest, Hastings contributed 10 saves, a ground ball and a key caused turnover. For the two games, she had an 8.00 goals against average and a .600 saves percentage. On the season, Hastings has a 6.36 goals against average and a .587 saves percentage.
KREMER NAMED NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK BY INSIDELACROSSE.COM – March 14, 2005
Kelly Kremer (Fr., Kennett Square, Pa.) has been named the Division I National Player of the Week by insidelacrose.com for her play last week against Johns Hopkins and Virginia Tech. She recorded a career-high six goals in the upset of Johns Hopkins. She added an assist, two ground balls and a draw control against the Blue Jays. Kremer had three goals in the first half to keep the Buckeyes in the game going into the second half tied at six. She scored OSU’s first two goals of the second half to give the Buckeyes an 8-7 lead. Her sixth goal of the game came during a 4-0 Ohio State scoring run to cap the victory. Against Virginia Tech, Kremer scored a game-high three goals and had an assist. She added a ground ball and a caused turnover. She scored OSU’s last two goals of the first half against the Hokies to give the Buckeyes a 5-4 halftime lead that would hold up for the game. Kremer added a third goal late in the game to complete the hat trick. For the season, Kremer is Ohio State’s leader in goals with 16.
JESSE OWENS MEMORIAL STADIUM, HOME OF THE BUCKEYES
The 8,000-seat Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium arguably is one of the finest multi-sport facilities in the country, hosting track and field and lacrosse in the spring and soccer in the fall.
HEAD COACH Sue Stimmel
Sue Stimmel is in her 10th season as the head coach for the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team. A 1984 graduate of Temple University, Stimmel is the only coach that the Buckeye program has had. She spent six years has the head coach of Denison prior to coming to Ohio State. Stimmel is 77-65 at Ohio State and is 153-83 in her 16-year career. The 2003 season was her most successful with a program-high 14 wins, finishing the regular season ranked 11th nationally and making the school’s second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship, advancing to the quarterfinals. Her squad won the 2003 American Lacrosse Conference Championship and she was named the ALC Coach of the Year and was later named the 2003 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Regional Coach of the Year.
BUCKEYES HAVE TWO APPEARANCES ON CSTV THIS SEASON
Ohio State will have its final two regular season games telecast by College Sports Television (CSTV) this season. OSU’s game at Northwestern Thursday, April 5 (4 p.m. start) will be a delayed telecast that will be seen at 8 p.m. that night. The Buckeyes will face Notre Dame Saturday, April 7 in a live telecast at 1 p.m.

The Buckeyes will host California-Berkeley at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 10 at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
