COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 15th-ranked Ohio State (3-1 overall, 1-0 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse squad hosts ALC rival, Ohio (1-4, 0-2), Thursday, March 17 at 7 p.m. The game is scheduled to be played in the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Kim Hastings (Jr., Sewickley, Pa.) was named the Division I National Player of the Week by womenslacrosse.com and the American Lacrosse Conference Player of theWeek for her play against Johns Hopkins and Virginia Tech last week. She recorded 14 saves against Johns Hopkins, adding five ground balls in the contest. From a six-all tied at halftime, she allowed only three second half goals to help secure the win for Ohio State. In the Virginia Tech contest, Hastings contributed 10 saves, a ground ball and a key caused turnover. For the two games, she had an 8.00 goals against average and a .600 saves percentage. On the season, Hastings has a 6.36 goals against average and a .587 saves percentage.
KREMER NAMED NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK BY INSIDELACROSSE.COM
Kelly Kremer (Fr., Kennett Square, Pa.) has been named the Division I National Player of the Week by insidelacrose.com for her play last week against Johns Hopkins and Virginia Tech. She recorded a career-high six goals in the upset of Johns Hopkins. She added an assist, two ground balls and a draw control against the Blue Jays. Kremer had three goals in the first half to keep the Buckeyes in the game going into the second half tied at six. She scored OSU’s first two goals of the second half to give the Buckeyes an 8-7 lead. Her sixth goal of the game came during a 4-0 Ohio State scoring run to cap the victory. Against Virginia Tech, Kremer scored a game-high three goals and had an assist. She added a ground ball and a caused turnover. She scored OSU’s last two goals of the first half against the Hokies to give the Buckeyes a 5-4 halftime lead that would hold up for the game. Kremer added a third goal late in the game to complete the hat trick. For the season, Kremer is Ohio State’s leader in goals with 16.
A LOOK AT OHIO STATE
The head coach for the 15th-ranked Buckeyes is Sue Stimmel. Ohio State is 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the American Lacrosse Conference after a 12-9 upset of sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins in conference play and a 13-7 victory over Virginia Tech in a non-conference contest.

Ohio State’s Kelly Kremer has a team-high 18 points for the Buckeyes with 16 goals and two assists. KC Carter (Jr., Birchrunville, Pa.) and Kristen Slahor (Fr., Ellicott City, Md.) have nine points each. Carter has eight goals and an assist while Slahor has three goals and six assists. Regina Oliver (Sr., Pottstown, Pa.) has a team-high 17 ground balls with Brandie Williams (Sr., Hatboro, Pa.) second with 13. Oliver also leads the squad in caused turnover with 10. Williams is second with nine. Ashley Evans leads the team in draw controls with 11. Kremer, Carter and Oliver are tied for second with five each. In goal, Kim Hastings is 3-1 on the season, starting all four games. She has a 6.36 goals against average and an .587 saves percentage.
A LOOK AT OHIO
The head coach for the Bobcats is Kate Brew. Ohio is 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in the ALC. Last week the Bobcats defeated Virginia Tech, 12-11, in triple overtime and lost 14-0 to sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins.
OHIO BY THE NUMBERS
The Bobcats stopped a three-game losing streak with a 12-11 triple overtime win over Virginia Tech last Friday. Dana Dobbie scored four goals and an assist and added 17 draw controls in the contest. Molly Wurdack and Caitly Link each added two goals against the Hokies. In goal, Jayme Levy picked up the win and collected eight saves.
OHIO STATE – OHIO SERIES
Ohio State leads the series with the Bobcats, 5-1. The Buckeyes are 4-0 in games played at Ohio State. OSU won 23-3 in 1999, 22-7 in 2000 and 18-6 in 2001 in game played in Columbus. The Buckeyes won 12-6 in Athens in 2002 and won 15-9 in Columbus in 2003. Last season, the Bobcats won, 7-4, in Athens.
THE LAST GAME AGAINST OHIO
In 2004, Ohio State women’s lacrosse team fell behind, 5-0, to Ohio University and lost a, 7-4, decision at Pruitt Field in Athens. OSU’s Regina Oliver scored twice for the Buckeyes with Noemi Hites and Natale Miller adding single tallies. OU’s Kynz Keys scored a game-high five goals for the Bobcats with Melissa Menna and Emily Hemmelgarn completing the scoring. Ohio University opened the scoring with the first five goals of the game. Keys gave the Bobcats a 3-0 halftime lead with unassisted goals at 10:52, 25:10 and 27:37 gone in the half. Bobcat Menna made it 4-0 at 39:24 and Keys’ fourth goal of the game, assisted by Caitlin Link, at 44:53 gave Ohio a 5-0 lead. Hites unassisted goal at 48:14 put OSU on the scoreboard and with Oliver’s free position goal at 49:34 cut the Bobcat lead to 5-2. A fifth goal by Keys at 55:49 and Hemmelgarn’s tally at 58:16 gave the Bobcats a 7-2 lead. Unassisted Buckeye goals by Oliver (58:28) and Miller (59:33) made the final score, 7-4. Bobcat goalie Jen Cassidy made 15 saves in the game and saw three Ohio State shots go off the frame of the goal. OSU’s Kim Hastings played the entire game, making four saves.
REVIEWING THE JOHNS HOPKINS GAME
Ohio State broke an eight-all tie with a four-to-one run to upset sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins, 12-9, in a game that started outdoors and with 8:30 left in the half was moved indoor due to a snow squall. OSU’s Kelly Kremer posted a career-high six goals with KC Carter adding four. The Buckeyes opened a 5-1 lead and held a 5-3 edge when play was suspended. Johns Hopkins outscored Ohio State 3-1 when the game moved indoors to tie the game at six-all at halftime. Tied at eight, two goals by Carter and one each from Kremer and Lindsay Weiner opened a 12-8 Buckeye lead. A late goal by the Blue Jays made the final margin, 12-9. Blue Jay Mary Key had two goals and two assists for Johns Hopkins. In goal, OSU’s Kim Hastings had nine saves with JHU’s Lauren Riddick recording seven.
REVIEWING THE VIRGINIA TECH GAME
Ohio State used a strong second half to defeat Virginia Tech, 13-7. With the game tied at four-all late in the first half, a Kelly Kremer goal at 28:47 gave OSU a 5-4 lead at halftime. The Buckeyes outscored the Hokies 8-3 in the second half. OSU did trail early, 3-2, before goals by Ashley Evans and Kremer put the Buckeyes up, 4-3. Kremer had a game-high three goals for OSU with Kristen Slahor, Regina Oliver, KC Carter and Evans scored two goals each. In goal, Kim Hastings posted the win recording 10 saves, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
OHIO STATE RETURNS TO IWLCA RANKINGS
With Ohio State’s victory over sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins and then Virginia Tech, the Buckeyes have returned to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Poll at 15. OSU had 77 votes in the poll this week. The Buckeyes have not been ranked since March 22, 2004 when they were 18th in the poll. Ohio State also was ranked for the first time this season in the insidelacrosse.com poll at 15th and the womenslacrosse.com poll at 17th.
KREMER CONTINUES TO SCORE FOR THE BUCKEYES
Kelly Kremer added six goals against Johns Hopkins and three against Virginia Tech to bring her team-leading total to 16. She added an assist in each game last week to give her a team-leading 18 points.
OLIVER LEADS TEAM IN GROUND BALLS AND CAUSED TURNOVERS
Regina Oliver leads Ohio State on the season with 17 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Her eight ground balls and six caused turnovers are season-highs for the Buckeyes. Oliver added two goals and two assists in the contest and has four goals and two assists on the year.
HASTINGS IS KEY IN BUCKEYE WINS
Kim Hastings played a key role in OSU wins over sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins (12-9) and over Virginia Tech (13-7). Hastings was outstanding with 14 saves against Johns Hopkins and added five ground balls. After giving up six goals in the first half, Hasting held the Blue Jays to three goals in the second half to help secure the upset win. In the Virginia Tech game, Hastings recorded 10 saves, adding a ground ball and a key caused turnover. In the two games, Hastings had an 8.00 goals against average and a .600 saves percentage and recorded six ground balls and a caused turnover.
EVANS CONTROLS THE DRAW
Ashley Evans has a team-high 11 draw controls to lead the Buckeyes. She had a season-high five draw controls in the Johns Hopkins game and added two against Virginia Tech. Evans has also contributed five goals this season adding five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
OLIVER TIED FOR FOURTH IN OSU CAREER POINTS
With two goals and two assists against Virginia Tech, Regina Oliver has moved into a tie for fourth in OSU career points with 138 (100 goals, 38 assists). She is tied with Celeste Cianfrani (1998-00) with 87 goals and 51 assists. Oliver needs 17 points to pass No. 3 Shannon Wilson (2000-03) with 154 points (110-44).
OLIVER BECOMES FOURTH BUCKEYE TO REACH 100 GOALS
With her two goals against Virginia Tech, Regina Oliver now has 100 career goals and becomes only the fourth OSU student-athlete to reach the 100-goal mark. Other with over 100 goals are Tracey Bounds (2000-03) with 107, Shannon Wilson (2000-03) with 110 and career leader Megan Mirick (1999-02) with 143.
CARTER NOW FOURTH IN OSU CAREER DRAW CONTROLS
KC Carter’s two draw controls against Johns Hopkins gives her 55 for her career and moves her to fourth on the OSU career list. She had been tied with Shannon Wilson (2000-03) with 53. Carter needs 10 draw controls to pass No. 3 Megan Mirick (1992-02) who has 64.
HASTINGS NOW THIRD IN CAREER WINS
Kim Hastings, with wins over Johns Hopkins and Virginia Tech now has eight wins in her career and has moved to third in OSU career wins. She had been tied for third with Nicole Morris (1997) and Jamie Bauer (1997-99) with six wins. Ranking second for the Buckeyes in wins with 25 is Erin Forquer (2002-03). Hastings ranks fifth in career saves with 134 and third in career goals against average at 8.58.

Ohio State’s Regina Oliver has been named a first team preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse as announced on their web site.

Regina Oliver has been named to the 2005 Preseason All-Conference Team of the American Lacrosse Conference by a vote of the league’s head coaches. She is a three-time first team ALC all-conference selection and was the 2002 ALC Rookie of the Year and the 2003 ALC Player of the Year. BUCKEYES PICKED TO FINISH SIXTH IN CONFERENCE PLAY
Ohio State has been picked to finish sixth in the ALC. The Buckeyes were 1-5 last season in the ALC, finishing sixth. Northwestern was picked to finish first by the coaches. OLIVER NAMED TO PRESEASON TEWAARATON AWARD WATCHLIST
Regina Oliver has been named to the Spring 2005 preseason watchlist of the Tewaaraton Award Foundation. The award, considered the Heisman Award of lacrosse, will be voted upon by coaches and narrowed as the season progresses, ultimately reaching a final list of five women and five men who will constitute the award’s finalist. Oliver, a midfielder for the Buckeyes, is a two-time Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association/U.S. Lacrosse All-American receiving second team honors in 2003 and a third team selection in 2004. She is a three-time American Lacrosse Conference first team selection and was named the 2002 ALC Rookie of the Year and the 2003 ALC Player of the Year.

Kelly Kremer was honored by both insidelacrosse.com and womenslacrosse.com after her four-goal performance against Duquesne last Saturday. InsideLacrosse.com named her an honorable mention player of the week while womenslacrosse.com named her to their honor roll. Playing in her first game as a Buckeye, Kremer scored four goals in six shots including one for two in free position attempts. She added three draw controls and two ground balls in the contest.
JESSE OWENS MEMORIAL STADIUM, HOME OF THE BUCKEYES
The 8,000-seat Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium arguably is one of the finest multi-sport facilities in the country, hosting track and field and lacrosse in the spring and soccer in the fall. Over the last three years, the Buckeyes are 16-7 (.696) at the facility.
HEAD COACH Sue Stimmel
Sue Stimmel is in her 10th season as the head coach for the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team. A 1984 graduate of Temple University, Stimmel is the only coach that the Buckeye program has had. She spent six years has the head coach of Denison prior to coming to Ohio State. Stimmel is 76-62 at Ohio State and is 152-80 in her 16-year career. The 2003 season was her most successful with a program-high 14 wins, finishing the regular season ranked 11th nationally and making the school’s second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship, advancing to the quarterfinals. Her squad won the 2003 American Lacrosse Conference Championship and she was named the ALC Coach of the Year and was later named the 2003 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Regional Coach of the Year.
BUCKEYES HAVE TWO APPEARANCES ON CSTV THIS SEASON
Ohio State will have its final two regular season games telecast by College Sports Television (CSTV) this season. OSU’s game at Northwestern Thursday, April 5 (4 p.m. start) will be a delayed telecast that will be seen at 8 p.m. that night. The Buckeyes will face Notre Dame Saturday, April 7 in a live telecast at 1 p.m.
UP NEXT FOR OHIO STATE
The Buckeyes close out a four-game home stand by hosting Cornell, Tuesday, March 22 at 1 p.m. Ohio State then travels to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. to play in the ALC/ACC Challenge. The Buckeyes face North Carolina, Friday, March 25 at 5 p.m. and Maryland, Sunday, March 27 at 2:30 p.m.
