COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s lacrosse student-athletes, goalie Kim Hastings (Jr., Sewickley, Pa.) and attacker Kelly Kremer (Fr., Kennett Square, Pa.) have been named Division I National Players of the Week by womenslacrosse.com and insidelacrosse.com, respectively after Buckeye wins over sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins and Virginia Tech last week at home. Ohio State defeated Johns Hopkins, 12-9, and Virginia Tech, 13-7, to stand 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the American Lacrosse Conference. The Buckeyes returned to the national rankings this week at 15th in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, 15th in the insidelacrosse.com poll and 17th in the womenslacrosse.com poll.
Hastings recorded 14 saves against Johns Hopkins, adding five ground balls in the contest. From a six-all tied at halftime, she allowed only three second half goals to help secure the win for Ohio State. In the Virginia Tech contest, Hastings contributed 10 saves, a ground ball and a key caused turnover. For the two games, she had an 8.00 goals against average and a .600 saves percentage. On the season, Hastings has a 6.36 goals against average and a .587 goals against average.
Kremer recorded a career-high six goals in the upset of Johns Hopkins. She added an assist, two ground balls and a draw control against the Blue Jays. Kremer had three goals in the first half to keep the Buckeyes in the game going into the second half tied at six. She scored OSU’s first two goals of the second half to give the Buckeyes an 8-7 lead. Her sixth goal of the game came during a 4-0 Ohio State scoring run to cap the victory. Against Virginia Tech, Kremer scored a game-high three goals and had an assist. She added a ground ball and a caused turnover. She scored OSU’s last two goals of the first half against the Hokies to give the Buckeyes a 5-4 halftime lead that would hold up for the game. Kremer added a third goal late in the game to complete the hat trick. For the season, Kremer is Ohio State’s leader in goals with 16. Ohio State returns to action Thursday evening when they host Ohio (1-4 overall, 0-2 ALC), March 17 at 7 p.m.
