COLUMBUS, Ohio – Patrick Simard, a native of Marbella, Spain, has signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent to play men’s golf for Ohio State. He will be eligible for the 2006-07 season.
“We are extremely excited for Patrick to join our Buckeye golf team,” Josh Hellmann, Ohio State’s assistant men’s golf coach, said. “We followed him very closely this summer and saw how wonderfully talented he is. Patrick will have the chance to make an immediate impact in our line-up and his strong work ethic and enduring passion for the game will take him a long way. Most importantly, Patrick possesses a dynamic personality and he is ready for the challenge that college golf presents.”
Simard finished second at the Under-21 Spanish Championships and fourth as an amateur in the 2005 Niza Car Championships. In addition, he has been ranked in the Top 4 of the Andulica region for eight-consecutive years, six of which he finished first.
Simard posted an impressive first place finish at the 2001 Doral Publix Junior in Miami and was second at the International Spanish Championships for those under the age of 21. He has a total of 14 national first place finishes overall in Spain.
“We are really pleased with Patrick’s decision to come to Ohio State,” Jim Brown, Ohio State head coach, said. “We feel he can make an immediate impact as a freshman. He was ranked as one of the top juniors in Spain. He has won a lot of tournaments and brings to the team vast experience.”
Ohio State opens the spring portion if its schedule Feb. 18, 2006 at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
