COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rowing team concluded its fall season with two victories at the Rivanna Romp Sunday at the Rivanna Reservoir in Charlotesville, Va. The Buckeye’s first varsity eight won its event for the fifth-consecutive year while the first pair also won its race. OSU also competed in the varsity four with the second boat finishing fourth in the event.
“This was a great way to end our fall season,” head coach Andy Teitelbaum said. “Everyone still has a lot of work to do before we get going in the spring, but it was great to see we were so competitive.”
The first varsity eight finished with a time of 13:51.88 to take first over 21 other boats. They finished almost nine seconds ahead of Wisconsin in second place at 14:02.30. The second OSU varsity eight was 11th with a time of 14:47.40, while the third varsity eight placed 16th at 15:12.62.
In the pair race, the first Buckeye pair won with a time of 17:07.94. The second, third and fourth OSU pairs finished seventh (18:06.57), eighth (18:46.63) and ninth (19:45.75), respectively.
The second Ohio State boat had the best finish in the varsity four race, placing fourth out of 24 teams with a time of 16:09.58. The first OSU varsity four was 10th at 16:27.75, while the third varsity four was 21st at 17:20.35.
Ohio State will be away from competition the next four months in preparation for the 2006 spring season. The Buckeyes open that season at the Wyndamere Classic March 25-26 in Redwood Shores, Calif.
