Women’s Lacrosse Molly McLaughlin Honored with Corwin A. Fergus Memorial Award – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s lacrosse student-athlete Molly McLaughlin (Sr., Towson, Md.) received the Corwin A. Fergus Memorial Award at the Annual Student-Athlete Banquet. She was one of four Buckeyes to receive the honor. Other award winners included Anthony Gilardi (Lacrosse, Sr., Baldwin, N.Y.), Ben Hartsock (Football, Sr., Chillicothe, Ohio and Jessica Marshall (Pistol, Sr., Columbus, Ohio).
McLaughlin is a four-year member of the women’s lacrosse squad. She played in 33 games in her career scoring 14 points on five goals and nine assists. McLaughlin is a member of SPHINX, a senior honorary at Ohio State and was president of Ohio State’s Student Athlete Advisory Board as a junior when she was a member of the NCAA’s Division I Student Athlete Advisory Council.
Fergus scholars are male or female student-athletes who have excelled in athletics, achieved academically (3.00 GPA minimum), demonstrated positive qualities of character and citizenship and shown potential for success in a graduate or professional program. Established in 1967, the award is given in memory of Corwin A. Fergus, a member of the Ohio State football team (1912-14), a graduate of the Ohio State School of Law and later a successful businessman. The award reflects his strong commitment to the pursuit of academic and athletic excellence and the Fergus’ positive contributions to society. The $5,000 postgraduate scholarships, which each are renewable for up to three years, can be utilized for graduate study or professional programs at Ohio State.
At the Scholar-Athlete Banquet, 16 women’s lacrosse players were honored as Student-Athletes. They included Taryn Bowen (Sr., Columbus, Ohio), KC Carter (So., Birchrunville, Pa.), Joy DeMarco (Fr., Hudson, Ohio), Kim Hastings (So., Sewickley, Pa.), Noemi Hites (Sr., Pleasanton, Calif.), Mindy Kittle (So., Hockessin, Del.), Jodi Kurylo (Sr., Ringoes, N.J.), Molly McLaughlin (Sr., Towson, Md.), Alicia Meredith (So., Prospect, Ky.), Emily Rosen (So., Baltimore, Md.), Melissa Sands (Jr., Fallston, Md.), Libby Schmehling (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.), Colby Szlag (Fr., Columbus, Ohio), Lauren Traficant (Fr., Dublin, Ohio), Amy Tulk (Sr., West Chester, Pa.) and Caroline Weatherill (Sr., Malvern, Pa.)
