No. 1 Buckeye Rowing Varsity Eight Defeats No. 4 Michigan – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1 Buckeye first varsity eight posted a victory over No. 4 Michigan to continue its undefeated streak Saturday on the Scioto River in Columbus, Ohio. Overall, Ohio State finished with a 5-1 record in the home regatta.
“We had a really good day of racing,” Andy Teitelbaum, Ohio State head coach, said. “It’s great to race Michigan and be able to win five of six races, but I’m sure this is not all we are going to be seeing from them this season. We were solid today, but we need to keep getting better if we want to stay on top.”
The first varsity eight posted its third victory of the year, outrunning the Michigan top boat by 7.14 seconds, finishing the race in 6:30.71 to Michigan’s 6:37.85.
In the second varsity eight competition, Ohio State took first at 6:46.44 and Michigan came in second at 6:51.61.
Michigan captured its lone victory of the day as it defeated Ohio State’s first varsity four boat by 0.99 seconds. Michigan finished with a time of 7:29.6 and OSU followed at 7:30.59. The OSU second varsity four boat came in first at 7:46.59 and Michigan finished with a time of 7:47.83.
The Buckeye novice teams also took to the water today as both the first novice eight and the second novice eight came in first. The OSU first novice eight finished with a time of 7:06.04, 14.57 seconds ahead of Michigan. The OSU second novice eight finished in 7:24.36, 23.11 seconds ahead of Michigan.
Next time out, Ohio State will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to compete in the ACC /Big Ten double duals April 10. The Buckeyes will face No. 8 Virginia and No. 18 Duke on Lake Michie.
