COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (4-8 overall, 1-3 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team fell 12-9 at Vanderbilt (8-3, 3-1) Sunday afternoon. OSU’s Regina Oliver (Jr., Pottstown, Pa.) scored a team-high three goals and added an assist. Ashley Evans (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.) contributed two goals and an assist and extended her consecutive goal streak to 11 games. Commodore Kate Hockman had a game-high four goals for Vanderbilt while Kelly Devlin had a game-high six points with two goals and four assists.
Vanderbilt opened the scoring with goals by Michelle Allen (2:27) and Hockman (6:52). OSU tied the game at two with goals by Oliver (11:12) and Evans (11:52). The Commodores opened a 5-2 lead with goals from Lauren Peck (15:14) and two by Devlin (16:35, 17:40). A Brandie Williams (Jr., Hatboro, Pa.) goal at 20:38 cut the lead to two at 5-3. Vanderbilt, with two goals from Hockman (21:39, 26:10) gave the Commodores a 7-3 halftime lead.
The Commodores opened the scoring in the second half with a goal by Allen (30:56). Buckeye goals by Oliver (32:51) and Amy Tulk (Sr., West Chester, Pa.) (38:57) cut the lead to three at 8-5. Hockman’s fourth goal at 40:24 made it 9-5. KC Carter (So., Birchrunville, Pa.) cut the lead to three at 43:39. Vanderbilt, with two goals from Jess Roguski (48:48, 49:24) and one from Meg Spies (51:59) opened up a six-goal lead for the Commodores at 12-6. Ohio State cut into the lead with free position goals from Evans (52:36), Oliver (53:41) and Natale Miller (West Chester, Pa.) (59:13) to close out the scoring.
In goal for Ohio State Taryn Bowen (Sr., Columbus, Ohio) started the game and played the first half. She gave up seven goals and had seven assists. Kim Hastings (So., Sewickley, Pa.) played the second half and recorded seven saves while giving up five goals. Vanderbilt’s Ashley Bastinelli recorded the win, playing the first 58 minutes. She had eight saves while giving up eight goals. Liz Exline closed out the game (two minutes) for the Commodores recording a save and giving up one goal.
