COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team opened play at the 35th annual Robert Kepler Intercollegiate Saturday and stand in third-place with one round to go. The Buckeyes fired an opening round of 594 and sit just nine strokes behind Xavier who holds the team lead after two rounds. The event is being held at the par 72, 7,141-yard Ohio State University Scarlet Golf Course.
Leading the way for Ohio State is senior Zach Doran (Dublin, Ohio/Columbus Academy), who posted a two-round total of 145 and stands in sixth-place. The Buckeyes also received a strong outing from Colin Biles (Fr., Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) who tied for 12th after posting rounds of 75 and 73.
Toledo’s Brad Heaven and Kent State’s Ryan Yip are tied for the lead as both fired rounds of 141. Yip’s first round total of 67, tied former Ohio State golfer Ted Tryba’s record, which was set back in 1988.
Final round competition begins tomorrow with teams teeing off holes 1 and 10 at 8 a.m.
