No. 9 Buckeye Rowing Varsity Eight Defeats No. 1 Brown, No. 3 Princeton – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 9 Buckeye first varsity eight posted a victory over No. 1 Brown and No. 3 Princeton to claim the lone OSU win Saturday on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. Ohio State finished with a 1-4 record in season opener.
“The first eight had a great race,” Andy Teitelbaum, Ohio State head coach, said. “They are strong and had a great day. It is a great start for the year. Everybody needs to continue taking steps forward. I am very proud of the whole team particularly the first boat. We worked very hard in the winter and it really paid off especially for the varsity.
The first varsity eight posted its first victory of the year, outrunning the Princeton top boat by 4.63 seconds, finishing the race in 6:26.2 to Princeton’s 6:30.83 and Brown’s 6:32.80.
In the second varsity eight competition, Brown took first at 6:36.3 and Princeton came in second at 6:47.73. The OSU second varsity eight finished third at 6:50.67.
Ohio State raced two boats in the varsity four competition. OSU’s first boat finished 7:28.79, just 1.19 seconds behind first place Brown. The OSU B boat completed the race in 7:45.9.
The Buckeye novice teams also took to the water today as both the first novice eight and the second novice eight came in third. The OSU first novice eight finished with a time of 7:23.34, 41.94 seconds behind first place Princeton. The OSU second novice eight finished in 7:43.44, 43.84 seconds behind first place Brown.
Brown recorded the best day, as it swept three of the five races.
“There was some great racing today in all of the events,” Teitelbaum said. “Princeton and Brown brought some great crews to the water.
Next time out, Ohio State will play host to defending 2003 Big Ten Champions No. 2 Michigan at 10 a.m. April 3 at Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River in Columbus, Ohio.
