Buckeye Randy Monahan Named National Gymnast of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a strong performance at the Windy City Invitational, Ohio State junior Randy Monahan (Elizabethtown, Pa.) earned his second honor of the week, as he was named national gymnast of the week by the publication Inside Gymnastics Thursday. Monahan’s honor comes just a day after he was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week. Monahan helped lead top-ranked Ohio Sate to its second consecutive Windy City title by placing first in the all-around with a score of 54.150. He was just .35 points shy of his career high (54.500), which he set while claiming the all-around title at the 2003 Big Ten Championships.
“It is definitely an honor to receive this award,” Monahan said. “I had a good performance at the Windy City. I hope to keep going strong throughout the rest of the season.”
At the Windy City, Monahan also captured the rings and high bar titles, posting a 9.50 and 9.65, respectively. Monahan’s scores surpassed his career highs of 9.450 on rings and 9.475 on high bar from a year ago. He recorded those marks in the 2003 NCAA Championships.
The Buckeyes play host to Minnesota at 7 p.m. Saturday at St. John Arena.
