Pair of Senior Rowers Named First Team All-Americans – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, OH – Senior members of the Ohio State rowing team, Maxi Meissner (Schoenow, Germany/Sportschule Potsdam) and Karla Fiserova (Jindrichuv Hradec, Czech Republic/Obchodni Akademie TGM), will end their respective Buckeye careers as 2003 First Team All-Americans, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced Thursday.
The national award is the second for both rowers. Meissner was a first team All-America member in 2001, while Fiserova was named to the second team in 2002. Meissner and Fiserova both were 2003 first team all-conference and all-region members as well.
Meissner leaves the Buckeye squad as one of the most decorated rowers in the program’s eight-year history. A four-year member of the OSU first varsity 8, this season marks the second time in Meissner’s tenure as a Buckeye that she garnered first team All-America, all-region and all-conference accolades. She also was named second team All-Big Ten in 2002. In the classroom, Meissner is a four-time OSU Scholar Athlete and two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Fiserova rowed just three seasons for the Buckeyes, but spent all three in the team’s first 8. As a two-time first team all-region and all-conference honoree, Fiserova also excelled academically, where she is a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Both Meissner and Fiserova were members of the 2003 Ohio State first varsity 8, which placed second at both the Big Ten and south/central region championships and ninth at the NCAA regatta. The team finished eighth overall at the national championships.
