Women’s Lacrosse Takes Top Honors In The American Lacrosse Conference – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team swept all the major awards as the American Lacrosse Conference announced the 2003 all-conference squads and special awards selected by a vote of the league coaches. The 2003 ALC Champion Buckeyes were honored with the three player awards: Player of the Year – Regina Oliver (So., Pottstown, Pa.); Goalie of the Year – Erin Forquer (So., Shaker Heights, Ohio); Rookier of the Year – KC Carter (Fr., Birchrunville, Pa.) and the Coach of the Year – Sue Stimmel. Oliver, Forquer, Tracey Bounds (Sr., Ellicott City, Md.) and Shannon Wilson (Sr., Sherkston, Ontario) were named to the ALC First Team All-Conference Squad. Additionally, Kimberly Lowe (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa.) was selected to the second team.
Oliver, who was the ALC Rookie of the Year in 2002, led the Buckeyes in scoring with 50 points and 37 goals. She also led Ohio State in draw controls with 40 and caused turnovers with 46 while ranking second in the conference in draw controls, ground balls and caused turnovers. Oliver ranks third nationally in caused turnover per game. She was named the ALC Player of the Week on March 24. She was a 2002 All-Conference selection.
Forquer led the ALC in goals-against-average (6.76) and save percentage (55.7%), both statistics in which she ranked in the top-12 nationally. Forquer’s GAA ranked third nationally at the conclusion of the regular season. She was named the ALC Player of the Week on March 17.
Carter ranked second on the Buckeye squad in draw controls with 29 and ranked sixth in ALC statistics. Carter started all 16 games as a freshman collecting 18 goals, three assists for 21 points. She recorded 31 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers.
Stimmel, in her eighth season with the Buckeyes, guided OSU to the ALC Championship this season and OSU’s second appearance in the NCAA Championship.
Bounds was OSU’s team leader in ground balls with 70. She was the ALC statistical champion in ground balls with a 4.38 per game average. Bounds recorded 22 goals and a team-high 17 assists this season for the Buckeyes. She was a 2002 ALC All-Conference selection.
Wilson tied Oliver for the team lead in goals with 37 this season. She was second on the squad in points with 44. Wilson recorded 32 ground balls, 20 draw controls and 22 caused turnovers. She was named the ALC Player of the Week on April 28.
Lowe finished the regular season ranked fifth in the ALC in caused turnovers with a 1.81 per game average (29). She recorded 32 ground balls and 20 draw controls this season.
Ohio State (13-3) travels to Duke (13-4) for a 3 p.m., Thurs., May 8 first round game in the NCAA Championship.
