COLUMBUS, Ohio – The NCAA women’s lacrosse committee has awarded Ohio State an at-large bid to the 2003 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. Ohio State (13-3 overall) will face the fourth-seed Duke (13-4) in Durham, N.C., Thurs., May 8 at a time to be determined.
The Buckeyes are having the best year in the history of the program, winning a program-high 13 games and have a perfect 8-0 road record this season. Ohio State was the regular season champion in the American Lacrosse Conference with a 5-1 mark. The 10th-ranked Buckeyes were 8-2 against teams ranked in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Poll and has won three-of-four against teams ranked in the top-10.
Ohio State’s first NCAA appearance was last season when the Buckeyes lost, 11-7 at Notre Dame.
The fourth-ranked Blue Devils of Duke are 7-1 at home this season with the lone loss coming on Sunday to eighth-ranked Dartmouth (9-7). Duke has hosted NCAA Tournament games the last four years, holding a 4-1 record at Koskinen Stadium in tournament action. The Blue Devils have now reached the tournament in six consecutive seasons and have advanced past the opening round in each of the past four seasons. Thursday’s contest between the two schools will mark their first ever meeting in women’s lacrosse.
