COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind four goals by Tracey Bounds (Sr., Ellicott City, Md.) and three from Shannon Wilson (Sr., Sherkston, Ontario), the tenth-ranked Ohio State (8-2 overall, 3-0 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team easily defeated Davidson, 17-3, Sunday afternoon at the Turf Field in Davidson, N.C. Four other Ohio State student-athletics added two goals each in the contest. The Buckeyes opened the game with a 4-0 lead, expanding that to a 12-2 halftime lead.
OSU’s Wilson opened the scoring for Ohio State just 2:08 into the contest. KC Carter (Fr., Birchrunville, Pa.), on an assist from Alexia Vogler, (Sr., Ellicott City, Md.) made it 2-0 at 3:24. Unassisted tallies by Regina Oliver (4:33) (So., Pottstown, Pa.) and Bounds (4:51) gave the Buckeyes a 4-0 lead. The Wildcats got on the scoreboard at 6:23 with a goal by Becca McDevitt. Caroline Weatherill (Jr., Malvern, Pa.) made it 5-1 with a score at 13:34. Davidson responded with a Loren Seaton goal at 16:23 to made it 5-2. The Buckeyes scored seven more goals before half to take a 12-2 lead. A second goal by Bounds came at 16:54. Wilson’s second goal followed at 22:14. At 25:06 on an assist from Wilson, Weatherill scored her second goal to make it 8-2. Noemi Hites (Jr., Pleasanton, Calif.) assisted on Oliver’s second goal at 26:24. Wilson picked up her third goal at 26:34. Carter scored her second goal at 27:13 on an assist from Molly McLaughlin (Jr., Towson, Md.). OSU’s Amy Tulk (Jr., West Chester, Pa.) closed out the first half at 28:24 with a goal assisted by Vogler. The Buckeyes opened the second half with back-to-back goals by Bounds at 32:45 and 36:34. OSU’s Andrea Fischer (Fr., Cleveland Heights, Ohio) made it 15-2 at 38:00. Davidson’s Seaton collected her second goal of the game at 42:50. OSU closed out the scoring with goals by Allison Benson (Fr., Cockeysville, Md.) at 50:25 and Fischer’s second goal at 58:23 for a 17-3 final score.
In goal for the Buckeyes, Erin Forquer (So., Shaker Height, Ohio), Taryn Bowen (Jr., Columbus, Ohio) and Kim Hastings (Fr., Sewickley, Pa.) all saw action giving up just three goals and making a combined three saves. Leslie Smith had 13 saves for Davidson.
Ohio State will play two non-conference games next week. The Buckeyes travel to Cornell (7-1) for a 4 p.m. Fri., April 11 contest. OSU then returns home to face California (8-2) at approximately 2 p.m., Sun., April 13. Prior to the women’s game, the men’s lacrosse team will host Fairfield at noon.
