No. 3 Men’s Gymnastics Upset by No. 12 Minnesota – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team was defeated by No. 12 Minnesota Sunday in Minneapolis, Minn., at the Sports Arena. Ohio State scored a season-low 211.975 to Minnesota’s 215.575, however, only six Buckeyes competed and all entered the all-around. Randy Monahan (So., Elizabethtown, Pa.) compiled the most points for Ohio State with 53.125 and placed third in the all-around competition behind Clay Strother (54.825) and Guillermo Alvarez (53.225) of Minnesota. Ohio State drops to 9-3 (5-2 Big Ten) on the season, while Minnesota improves to 3-7.
As a team, Ohio State topped Minnesota on floor, 37.255 to 37.025, and vault, 37.625 to 37.225. The Buckeyes posted a season-high on floor.
Monahan was the only Buckeye to place first in an individual event as he scored a 9.275 on high bar. Ronald Ferris (Fr., Austintown, Ohio) competed in the first all-around competition of his career and compiled a 51.975. Dick Huntwork (Sr., Pickerington, Ohio) set season records on all-around with 52.975 points, floor with a 9.525 and pommel horse with an 8.5.
Ohio State will return home for senior night against Michigan at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 15 in St. John Arena. This will mark the last competition before the Big Ten Tournament March 28-29 in St. John Arena.
